Daily logging
Hey everyone, I just wanted to chat about daily logging. I don't know if I'm over logging or under logging, I know all this is subjective. Do you log everything you do all day long? Like 'Coffee with a friend and we chatted about whatever' even though it's not something that would be relevant years from now? Yesterday I had a friend visiting me here in Thailand, and he wanted to hire a scooter so we went around and found a shop. I logged it, but this one could be valid because I might want to know what shop it was one day .. But if something is not relevant years from now, would you log it just for the sake of the weekly roll up, giving you a good idea of what you did that week? What about routine things like let's say you go for a morning walk always at the same place. Would you bother logging it every day? I understand you could log a gym session every day and just note what you worked on though.. What if you just have very quiet routine days for a couple of days? What's there to log? Keen to hear how you all use the logs..

I log pretty much everything i do at work using Claude Code. I like to know how long some tasks take me. I also log some pretty mundane things, like that I walked the dogs or that my sister texted me about something going on with her family. At my age, I forget when I did what, etc. I am actually quite surprised at how much I have been logging since I started using the Evergreen Vault. And I am tweaking Claude along the way as well. I realized that I missed a co-worker's birthday the other day, so I downloaded a spreadsheet with all the employees and their birthdays and had Claude upload it into Obsidian and set up a base for the employees in my company. Now they will show up in the "Birthdays this Month" section of the daily note. I just need to get better at logging what I do in the evenings. I have been spending at least an hour every evening reading/studying the materials for some courses I'm taking on canine behavior. I really need to track that, so I am getting in the habit of having Claude set up a "Study Session" based off of the work sessions and then I copy my notes into that study session.

@Dee Construct That was a question that I was going to ask. I have been putting everything into Study Sessions and I am thinking that I should be putting my notes into a Knowledge Base and linking them to the Study Session? I think they would be more useful in a Canine Behavior Knowledge Base. I have my diploma program (CBST) set up as a Hub and each course set up as a Project and the Study Sessions linked to the Project. Once I am finished a course in my program, I will be marking it as complete. I am sure I will want to reference my notes in the future so the knowledge base makes more sense to me now. I think I need to rewatch your Knowledge Base video a few ore times. 😅
Start here: introduce yourself
Welcome to The Construct. This is a small group of people who look at Obsidian the same way: not as a note app, but as the place your whole life runs from. Work, studies, health, admin, a business, all of it in one system that makes things simpler instead of adding another thing to manage. If that's how you think, you're among your people. Most of the world doesn't get it. Everyone here does. I built this place because a vault is the starting point, not the finish line. The real system gets built over months, adjusted to your actual life, and that goes faster when other people are building next to you. One note about communities like this: the value isn't in the content, it's in the people. Everyone who's ever got something out of a group like this posted. Nobody who only read did. Reading gets you nothing here. So the first thing to do is say hello. Copy this, fill it in, post it as a comment: Hi, I'm [name] from [city]. I do [what you do]. I've been in Obsidian for [how long]. I want my system to run [work / studies / a business / everything]. The thing that frustrates me right now is [one thing]. When you do, three things happen: I reply to you personally, I unlock the free Obsidian + Claude Basics course for you, and the next person who joins reads yours and posts too. How this place works: - Stuck on anything? Post it in Help. No question is too basic. - Built something? Post it in Showcase. Screenshots looks prettier than descriptions. - Own the Evergreen Vault? You're a Builder: the Builder Kit and the live call every two weeks are yours. Your turn.

Hi, I'm Carol from Waterford Works, New Jersey. I am the Controller for a small business so I work in QuickBooks, Excel and all the other Microsoft tools. I am also on the Board of Directors for NJ’s Shetland Sheepdog Rescue. I've been in Obsidian off and on for about a year now. I want my system to run pretty much everything. The thing that frustrates me right now is trying to move from Evergreen Vault (2026-05) to the updated Work Vault. I have so much set up and working in the May version. I don’t want to lose anything.

@Dee Construct I use Claude a lot with Excel. My bosses think I am superhuman because I can produce the reports they ask for so quickly. BUT I do need to know what to download from Quickbooks and how to phrase my prompts to get the information that I want in Excel. We use QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise on a Remote Desktop. So I have not figured out how to use Claude directly with QB. I'm excited to be here!
