Beach Day 🏖️
When we first get to the shore Amica and Riley avoid the water, then they will barely get their feet wet, and run from the waves. I started tossing their orange Chuck It ball closer and closer to the water, until it went in the water. Riley would go in the water, but Amica would wait for her ball to wash back on the shore. We did a little desensitization & threshold training by walking up & down the shore. This was challenging for me not to rush the process, because I love the water — 🌊 It Calls Me. 😉 But it doesn’t call Amica. 🤣 I wanted to have her enjoy swimming in the ocean, but she was good with just getting her paws wet. It was fine to readjust my goal, so that she would trust the process. My ultimate goal is for her not to just tolerate walking in the ocean, but actually enjoy it, so baby steps. She did get the water up to her knees at one time when a wave rolled in. 🤭

@Julie Kelley awww ☺️ TYSM for the sweet compliment. This video was a complete surprise to me. I didn’t know my husband was taking it and I do plan on watching it for relaxation before bedtime. It’s definitely a happy moment & memory with feel good vibes. Playing videos of good times with our dogs is a great way to ignite those good feels before we go to bed. When I was a young kid I encountered that same prankster ocean at the Jersey shore, and then when we moved to Cali that prankster ocean got me there too! 🤭I have been rolled by the ocean a several different times in my life. One time my friend and I were rocking our bikinis at the beach. It was the summer before starting high school and we thought we were hot stuff. We had been sun bathing for awhile covered in that signature 80’s marinating mixture of baby oil & iodine on our body and Sun-In natural hair bleach in our hair. It was our plan to go into our freshman year with gorgeous sun bleached hair & a nice dark tan. After baking on the beach we decided we would cool off in the ocean. We were swimming peacefully when a Giant Wave came along and cue Beach Boys song Wiiiiiiiiiiiipe Out! We were dragged under water to the shore. We both nearly lost our bikini bottoms 🌊👙. In the shallow ocean water we made sure everything was back in place. When we merged out of the water our hair and bikinis were full of sand. It was such a pitiful site! We looked at one another and just began to laugh hysterically. 🤣😂

@Julie Kelley lol 😂 the 80’s were Totally Awesome.
Twinning!
Not the greatest quality pics ever, but we put our twinning Christmas spirit jerseys on last night and took a few pics! Will get better ones once our tree is up, but I know I promised people these! And my mom bought him the Santa hat for his birthday lol

@Amanda Taulborg “give me a sec so my body can catch up with this moment.” — thank you for reframing it for me. I need to keep that in mind when I see Amica do the long stretch after I recall her or give her a command, and say, ok you need a moment as long as it doesn’t become a pattern for her right, because then that would be defiant 🤷🏻‍♀️ I definitely want to give her the benefit of the doubt, and at the same time make sure no bad patterns form. 😊

@Amanda Taulborg Amica definitely has her stubborn moments when it comes to competing interests of chasing a bug or bird and recalling with the e-collar or prong prompt.
All Dogs Get Scared Sometimes — And That’s Totally Normal  💛🧠
There’s this idea out there that “good dogs” or “well-trained dogs” shouldn’t be scared of anything… but that’s just not how real dogs work 😂 Every dog has fears. Even the confident ones. Even the goofy ones. Even the “nothing bothers me… oh wait, WHAT WAS THAT?” dogs. Fear is instinctual. It pops up out of nowhere sometimes — a loud bang, a weird noise, a new object, a cat that appears from the void. It’s just part of being a dog. 💛 The goal isn’t to make a fearless dog The goal is to make a dog who says: 👉 “Okay… that was weird… what should I do?” And that happens when you: - Notice the fear - Slow down - Take a moment to work through it - Show them they’re safe - Help them reset their brain instead of spiraling into “omg abort mission” mode This is how small startles don’t turn into big fears later. 🧠 When you work through fear with your dog, here’s what you build: - Confidence - Trust - Resiliency - A dog who thinks instead of reacts - A dog who can stay focused even when the world gets spicy 🔥😂 It doesn’t matter if it’s a vacuum, a skateboard, a plastic bag with too much attitude, or a random lawn ornament that looks suspiciously alive — fear moments happen to every dog. What matters is how we guide them through it. 🐶 Your daily reminder: Your dog doesn’t need to be fearless. They just need to know: 👉 “My human’s got me.” And that comes from training, communication, and literally just taking the time in those moments. 👇 Let’s make this fun — I want to hear from YOU! What is YOUR dog scared of? Big fears, tiny fears, hilarious fears — drop them below! Let’s normalize fear, celebrate progress, and help each other work through those moments so our dogs grow more confident every day. 🐾💪😊

@Julie Kelley peeing outside during a thunderstorm must be very hard for dogs. Here in Cali we don’t really get long thunder storms.

@Amanda Taulborg at least in So Cal in the area where I live when we get “a storm” the rest of the country calls it a rainy day or a heavy rain. 😉 When we have thunder in my area it doesn’t last long and it doesn’t rattle the windows or shake the entire house like the east coast or Midwest storms that I’ve experienced. The thunder storms here are actually enjoyable. Northern Cali could be different especially in the Humbolt area where it looks like you’re in a different state.

I know Harley is being trained for my pots, but she picked up on this behavior all by herself and I just been reinforcing the behavior I’ve noticed since I’ve had pots. I have this really bad habit of shaking my legs and putting my hands together or when my hands start getting real shaky, I kinda rest on my legs. Well, she in the video could see me calling her first cause she was sniffing around, but once she realized she turned around, and she stopped me from shaking my legs and my hands to disrupt the behavior. I was so proud of her. She started doing this about a month ago. Sorry for the kid screaming in the background it’s bath day for the dogs

@Amanda Taulborg No Pouncing on the Mama. Only Smooches from the Pooches. I’m so glad she chose kisses instead of doing a chin rest, although I’m an extremely light sleeper that a chin rest on my chest would’ve woken me up too.

Mission 3 Day 11 - working on vacuum . . . Again
Saffy had her first heat so we have been not been able to train for a bit. She lost some of scary noise bravado so . . . We worked on refreshing her staying during scary times and checking out the scary noise. This is just a little bit of our work. She got good free dogs, praise, and of course treats. Also some work on “off” using stairs because she kept running up on the bed to get away. Made her use the stairs to come back to a down and to check out the vacuum
