When someone comes to YOUR house... are you team shoes ON or shoes OFF? 👠 Here’s an old etiquette rule that feels VERY different from today... a properly dressed guest generally kept her shoes on inside someone else’s home. Taking your shoes off at the door wasn’t traditionally the automatic rule it has become in many homes today. Your shoes were considered part of your complete outfit, especially when you were visiting, attending a dinner or going to a party. Imagine arriving in your beautiful dress, stockings and heels... then padding around the hostess’s living room in your stockings. 😂 Of course, muddy or wet shoes were another story, and different households and cultures had their own customs. But traditionally, you wouldn’t simply kick your shoes off and get comfortable unless your hostess invited you to. The modern rule is much simpler... follow the customs of the home you’re entering.
