Honestly yall at this point Iโ€™m just happy & grateful to be physically capable to be active daily doing some type of exercise no matter what it is. Itโ€™s made running a bit more enjoyable yes I still procrastinate getting started but accepting itโ€™s a process & not obsessing over distance or pace is serving me well. The competitive side still tells me to constantly push but Iโ€™m currently trying to tame that animal sooo I guess Iโ€™m either getting soft or Iโ€™m evolving hopefully itโ€™s the latter๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

โ€œThe lieโ€ Monday Morning Conversation.
One of the major reasons we started Eat Cake Run club was to have a place where we all can get better as runners and more importantly humans. To do that we get the chance to be vulnerable and have real conversations and thoughtsโ€ฆ So for today REAL TALK Monday morning conversationโ€ฆ WHAT IS ONE LIE YOU TELL YOURSELFโ€”AND ACTUALLY BELIEVEโ€”ABOUT YOURSELF AS A RUNNER? Maybe itโ€™s: โ€œIโ€™m always slow.โ€ โ€œIโ€™m not a real runner becauseโ€ฆโ€ โ€œIโ€™ll never be able to run that far.โ€ โ€œEveryone else is better than me.โ€ โ€œI am told oldโ€ Ads yours here โ€ฆ Because The truth is, we all have one. Running isnโ€™t just physical. The legs may carry us down the miles , but the mind determines how far weโ€™re willing to go. The biggest battles in running usually happen between our ears, not beneath our feet. In fact, Iโ€™d argue that running is 95% mental. The body is often capable of far more than the mind gives it permission to do. And if youโ€™re thinking, โ€œI donโ€™t tell myself any liesโ€ฆโ€ Congratulations. You just found your second one. So letโ€™s be honest this morning: WHATโ€™S ONE LIE YOUโ€™VE BEEN TELLING YOURSELF AS A RUNNER, AND WHAT TRUTH SHOULD REPLACE IT? Share yours below. You might be surprised how many people need to hear the same truth today.

Oooo boy full disclosure I always say Iโ€™m not a runner b/c 1) I donโ€™t log enough miles weekly to be legit. I workout every day calisthenics, body weight stuff, etc b/c Iโ€™m shooting for all around fitness as I age so I joke Iโ€™m just an old dude tryna stay in shape๐Ÿคท2)Iโ€™ve always honestly considered my paces slow, Iโ€™m only average for my age probably b/c I donโ€™t put in enough miles weekly or do speed work to improve ๐Ÿคท 3)I always have & still do struggle w distance over 10 miles. If I donโ€™t run it straight through or stop periodically for breaks or walk a couple 10ths of a mile it really makes me feel like a loser & sub-parโ€ฆprobably b/c again I donโ€™t put in enough miles to build the engine properly. Mostly I always feel as if thereโ€™s just not enough hours in the day to squeeze all the juice out of the lemon, thereโ€™s always more Iโ€™d like to accomplish. Donโ€™t know if these are lies I tell myself or not but itโ€™s my own twisted assessment of me๐Ÿ˜‚

MONDAY MORNING CONVERSATION.... Warm up a waste of time or ..... ?
OH that good ole "Warm up" do you even need to do it.... who has time for that anyway. Nothing says elite runner confidence like jumping out of your house , tying your shoes, and immediately trying to run a PR pace as if your body wasn't sitting in a chair 90 seconds ago. But here are a few facts... Research shows that a proper warm-up can increase muscle temperature by 1-2ยฐF, improving muscle elasticity, power output, and efficiency. Research has also shown that a proper warm up program can help prevent in jury 30-40%. Furthermore studies have also found that runners who perform dynamic warm-ups can improve performance by 2-5%. Translation: your body works better when you don't treat it like an old lawnmower that should magically start at full throttle. Why? A good warm-up increases blood flow, gets oxygen moving to working muscles, improves range of motion, and helps your nervous system remember that today's mission is runningโ€”not scrolling social media. (But if you are scrolling be sure you include this page :-) Even elite runners spend 15-30 minutes warming up before hard workouts. Meanwhile, some of us (ME) are out here doing one ankle circle and saying, "Yep, that should do it." Me: Guilty... So I'm curious... For today's MONDAY MORNING CONVERSATION... What's your personal warm-up routine before a run? Do you have a detailed pre-run ritual, or are you part of the "first mile IS the warm-up" club? BE honest and share what is your go to....

On today's addition of "Monday Morning Conversation" Would you rather?
YES we all love the "Would you rather questions" SO here is a good one.... and one that has been top of mind for me as of lately.... Would you rather have to train and or Race in... 1. Higher altitude where that thin air takes your breath away? 2. Humid conditions where you feel like you are drenched in sweat before the run even starts? We want to hear about your best run story that involved one of these conditions. I am sure there are some good ones. SO DON'T HOLD BACK!
