Happy Mother's Day to every mama, mama bear, stepmom, grandma, and auntie who shows up like one. 🌸
Today is for you. The ones building businesses between school drop-offs and bedtime routines. The ones who answer DMs during soccer practice and outline content strategies at 11pm when the house finally gets quiet. The ones who stepped in and loved a child like their own. The ones who have been doing this longer than anyone and are still showing up, for their kids, their grandkids, and everyone lucky enough to be in their orbit. The ones who didn't give birth but have loved, guided, and cheered on a child like they did. You are doing something really hard, and you're doing it with so much heart. My morning started with homemade crepes from my oldest, my youngest and husband tackling the backyard, and a freshly power racked yard that somehow felt like the most loving thing ever. 😄 I am one lucky mama. To every woman in this community who carries that role in any form: I see you, I celebrate you, and I'm genuinely grateful you're here. Now go enjoy your day, the content can wait. 💛

Some takeaways from this year's Social Media Marketing World.
I shared some of my SMMW26 takeaways over on LinkedIn this week, but I wanted to bring the conversation in here because this is where it actually matters. You're already building the kind of content ecosystem these speakers were talking about from the stage, and I don't think you fully realize that yet. So I'm breaking them down one at a time. Here's the first one. AI isn't a tool you use. It's a partner you lead. The biggest mindset shift I kept hearing on stage, and the one I've been living personally, is that the people getting the most out of AI aren't the ones with the best prompts. They're the ones who've figured out how to have a real conversation with it. Give it context. Give it a role. Go back and forth until something actually useful comes out of it. I don't use AI to write my content. I use it to think through strategy, work out positioning, stress-test ideas. That's a very different relationship, and it changes everything about what you get back. How are you currently using AI in your business? I'm curious where everyone's at with this.

I use it the same as you, as a sounding board, to throw things around with, to discuss view points, the pros and cons, options, examples etc. To me AI is simply another advancement in technology, like the calculator when I was growing up. I can still add up, it’s just faster with a calculator. I can still write a letter, it’s just quicker to send a email. To me it’s just a tool, I don’t use it for content as you can tell the difference. That said I know it comes at huge environmental cost, but that’s a different subject all together.

@Liisa Reimann yes it most certainly does all those things….and it’s not good for our brain either! I am careful how I use it and aware of its “pandering into my ego” lol
I almost talked myself out of my own price today.
Someone asked me what I charge. I gave the number confidently. And then, in my head, I immediately started unraveling it. "Well, if that's too much, we could do less of this and bring the cost down a bit..." I caught it before it came out of my mouth. But barely. And here's the thing, the person didn't flinch. They weren't asking me to justify it or negotiate it down. They were just... ready to say yes. The only one with a problem was me. I think a lot of us do this. We quote our price and then immediately apologize for it, or start pre-emptively building an escape hatch for the other person before they've even had a chance to respond. We treat our number like it needs defending when really, it just needs space. Has this happened to you? Did you catch it, or did it come out before you could stop it?

I hear this from people often, they don’t value their expertise as they should. The money mindset can be a tricky thing, a lot of us grew up with parents who had a scarcity mindset - “money doesn’t grow on trees” etc Well done on you for catching those thoughts before they left your mouth 👏👏👏
You're not selling what you think you're selling.
So I'm at Social Media Marketing World and yesterday I end up in a conversation with a real estate agent. She asks me what she should post. My first question: who are you trying to reach? Families looking to move to Atlanta. So I told her something that probably felt counterintuitive. Stop posting listings. Become the Atlanta expert. Join the community Facebook groups. Promote local businesses, share events, answer the questions families are actually Googling when they're thinking about relocating. She's not selling a house. She's helping a family find somewhere they can belong. The houses sell themselves when you lead with that. And here's why I'm sharing this with you. The same rethink applies to all of us. You're not selling a course or a membership or a coaching package. You're selling the result your client is already searching for. Reverse engineer your content from there. Community. Connection. Content. What result are your clients actually chasing? 👇
You're not selling what you think you're selling.
