@Grant Pratt thank you. I will make sure to get a bevel on there. I actually want more thin stainless to practice on that. All I had left was 1/8th. The middle one got funny, but here’s some recent aluminum butt joints. Welding another charge pipe this weekend.

@Grant Pratt I need to be better about that for sure. On coupons I just run a million passes for reps I guess. I agree though I shouldn’t be getting sloppy with cleanliness
Supercharger cooling block
Ended up with this after about 10 more practice runs on lap joints.. maybe more

@Grant Pratt thanks, sounds good appreciate the advice.
Junkyard build stuff. Cast iron to mild steel.
Pretty sure it’s too hot, but it seems to be holding for now.

@Grant Pratt ok thank you. I did bevel it pretty good on the cast side. Put it in the stove and all that stuff. Thanks, I’ll put more filler in there next time.

I wasn’t just trying to make pretty welds. I was making some gaps, off height welds, cleaning with brush and acetone all the way to no cleaning at all. I had hertz high 170, down to 100. Amps stayed around 85-90 ish with some pedaling(1/16 coupons)Trying to get some tips for when they butt up to each other off height. Do you focus the arc toward the lower piece? Any advice appreciated

@Grant Pratt they were cheap Amazon pipes. I went home to try to trouble shoot the issue and came to the conclusion that this was the cause. The pipes aren’t round, it’s very weird. Also side note, everything was fit up before I got there. Just really struggled to weld it and haven’t had that situation happen before.

I like to build cars. My goal is to become skilled with tig welding so I can build cold sides and exhausts for turbo cars.
