Kubernetes distro choice
Hi sorry, I am such a noob but could someone help me decide which Kubernetes is best if I have 4 mini pcs or sff pcs (think hp prodesk or dell optiplex type devices). I first saw minikube but then realized it had no multi-device support so I kept exploring and saw kubeadm but that scared me away so next I looked at k3s but I had my doubts. I am currently looking at Talos Linux as it seems easy enough but still production-grade. I know Docker and Linux fairly well. If anyone had a list of distros that would also be helpful. If you have seen my previous comments you may know I have a almost fully built truenas server so I could use that for storage but maybe larger ssds in the pcs and longhorn would be better. Does anyone have any advice? I would greatly appreciate any and all help.

I’ve used kubeadm and it’s not something that should scare you. It’ll give you a lot more insight into the inner workings of kubernetes too, but I agree, it’s not so beginner friendly. It’s also helpful if you eventually want to do the CKA course because they’ll test you on kubeadm. Mischa highly recommends Talos which is what he uses and it’s definitely worth a try.
Database in k8s
Since running a PostgreSQL database inside a container is not recommended for production, which managed service would you recommend for using the database in a Kubernetes environment? I’ve developed a Python application that is currently containerized using Docker, with three separate containers: backend, frontend, and the app logic. I’m now planning to migrate this application to a Kubernetes cluster and looking for the most cost-effective (ideally zero-cost) solution to support this setup.

Here’s a short that can help. https://youtube.com/shorts/KqgLJksUK_I?si=fH-6LRLBhvvQksTE Mischa shows how you can provision a Postgres’s database on a kubernetes cluster. Could be what you’re looking for?

@Dave Kama not sure you can get a managed database at zero cost. AWS RDS has a free tier and works well with kubernetes but I’m not sure it’ll be a big enough instance for production.

@Sarhan Patel I’ll be using resources online. I have a Udemy CKA course alongside the homelab. Also open to more recommendations too if you have some.
