When They Say "Time is Money" They Aren't Kidding
Lawyers tend to think in linear patterns. It's not your fault - most of you are predisposed that way and the rest of you were taught linear thinking in law school. Linear thinking assumes that you can reach an eventuality by taking certain sequential steps. But that's not how it always works. Sometimes, you arrive there by a circular route. Revenue is linear. Opportunity cost is circular. Let me put it in more concrete terms. A friend and colleague recently told me that there's a direct relationship between the amount of time that is spent with a client and the eventual case value in a personal injury firm. I would take it a step further an insert "quality" in front of "time." Your clients need to believe that you care more about them than you care about yourself. If they don't, they will withhold trust. Withheld trust turns into more difficult client management - which turns into an opportunity cost for your case manager in direct time. Which eventually turns into opportunity cost for your attorneys because the clients try to chart their own path rather than trusting best recommendations. When they say "time in money" - they aren't kidding. Although it works in the reverse for opportunity cost. As you implement AI in your firm, what are you doing with the time your case managers save? Are you adding more cases, or are you implementing better relationship strategies? If you don't focus on relationships, it will cost you in a circular way. East is a Wheel. West is an Arrow
.The western perspective on time is that it's linear. Once an event has occurred, it's in the rear-view mirror. We are charged to look forward, not backward. The eastern perspective on time is that it's circular or cyclical. Once an event has occurred, it will happen again at another point in time. They are conditioned to see themes and respond to them. East is a wheel. West is an arrow. How often in business have we seen themes repeat themselves, only to shrug them off -- believing that if we continue to look forward, we will find success? Perhaps it's hiring patterns or financial decisions. Perhaps it's responses to trends and cultural pressures. Are you a wheel or an arrow? This weekend, I encourage you to think about this. What themes have you noticed over the last ten years that have harmed or benefitted your business? When do you expect the same challenges to rise again, and how will you confront them? This concept can be applied to your personal life as well. Here's to Your Weekend! Level Up Your Weekend!
Protecting Your Authentic Voice Branding is what differentiates you from your competitors. Who are you as a company? What do you stand for? What level of service do you provide? Who are you as a business owner/face of the company? What makes you memorable? What is your message? This is your authentic voice. If you pay attention, you can tell when AI has generated content. It has a certain look and cadence. Using AI in your marketing can undermine your differentiators because it produces the same or similar content for the same or similar prompts. Which tells your potential and clients that you're the same as your competitors. AI is a useful tool. But you want to make sure that your content looks like you, or at least is balanced so your differentiators continue to stand out. Don't lose your thumbprint to convenience. One way to stay ahead of this is to revisit your core values with your staff or leadership team. Ask your leaders or staff to share with you how your core values are showing through in work product or marketing. Which means it's probably a good time for you to revisit your personal core values as well. If you want to discuss this further click here to schedule a meeting with me. Here's to Your Weekend!
