💧 Peptide Reconstitution: Back to Basics
New to peptide research? Let’s talk about reconstitution! Reconstitution is simply the process of adding a liquid (called a diluent) to a freeze-dried, or lyophilized, peptide to create a solution. Here are a few important things to understand: 🧼 Cleanliness matters! Use sterile supplies, disinfect vial stoppers with alcohol, let them dry, and never reuse needles or syringes. 💧 Not all diluents are interchangeable. Bacteriostatic water is commonly discussed, but some products require sterile water, PBS, or Acetic Acid. The majority of peptides use BAC water but Always follow product-specific instructions. 🧪 Concentration matters! Adding more liquid makes a solution less concentrated. Adding less makes it more concentrated. The total amount of peptide stays the same. It’s best practice to add a nice even amount of water to your peptide vial such as 1,2, or 3ml. It makes the math much easier and less mistakes. 🔄 Handle with care. Some products require gentle swirling, while others have different mixing instructions. Don’t assume every peptide should be handled identically. ❄️ Storage matters! Reconstituted products require refrigeration. 📌 Label your vials. Record the product name, concentration, and preparation date when appropriate. 🌱 The Bottom Line Reconstitution isn’t just about adding water to powder. Understanding concentration, cleanliness, and proper storage is an important part of responsible research. And remember: a clear-looking solution doesn’t automatically mean it’s sterile or safe. Peptides that have gelled or become cloudy should be discarded and never injected. For educational purposes only. Research-use products are not necessarily approved or suitable for human administration.
