Practitioner to Practitioner: What Do You Do for Self-Care?
While I was doing interviews today, the topic of self-care came up and it made me wonder — as an Ayurvedic doctor or practitioner, what do you actually do for your own self-care? How do you slow time down when you’re the one holding space for everyone else?

Self-care for me is: daily meditation, a consistent sleep routine, 10 minutes of slow deep belly breathing before I get out of bed, I scrape my tongue, drink warm water first thing in the morning, and aim to eat seasonally with plenty of healthy fats like ghee. I do a 2 to 3 day kitchari cleanse every month and a longer one each equinox. I practice abhyanga several times a week, massage my feet with oil most nights, and practice yoga 3–5 times a week. My dog keeps me accountable to spending time outside and staying connected to nature. I keep my home as uncluttered as possible because my mind feels better when my space feels clear. I read spiritual texts at night, practice gratitude, and intentionally surround myself with good people…friends, family, and community. When I travel, I take triphala. I also gift myself a Vedic astrology reading every year for my birthday ✨ None of this happened overnight. This has been over 6 years of slowly building habits. I’m not perfect. I probably follow this rhythm about 80% of the time. But even with that, I feel noticeably more calm, grounded, and healthy!
