How Microbes Are the Real Immune System for Your Plants
When we think about keeping plants healthy, we often jump straight to nutrients, fertilizers, or even pest control. But here’s the surprising truth: plants themselves don’t have an immune system like we do. Instead, they rely on a hidden army of beneficial microbes to protect them from disease. The Vitamin C Problem Hiding in Your Lawn — Why Synthetics Are Just “Ascorbic Acid” for Grass
Most lawn owners don’t realize they’re caught in the same trap as people who think ascorbic acid equals real vitamin C. On paper, it sounds right. It looks right. The bottle says “Vitamin C.” But anyone who understands nutrition knows the truth: Ascorbic acid is only one tiny fragment of what real, whole-food vitamin C actually is. Whole-food vitamin C comes with enzymes, co-factors, proteins, flavonoids, amino acids, and minerals—an entire molecular ecosystem that works in harmony. Take ascorbic acid alone? You’re getting one gear from a much bigger machine. And this is exactly what’s happening in lawn care. Read more: https://www.springslawns.com/the-vitamin-c-problem.../

Why Your Lawn Still Needs Water in the Winter (And Why Timing Matters)
When winter rolls in, people tend to assume the lawn goes dormant, the soil goes to sleep, and all responsibilities magically disappear until March. If only it were that simple. The truth? Your lawn still needs moisture throughout the winter — and watering at the right times protects your turf, your soil biology, and your spring budget. Let’s break down why. Mowing Has Become a Time Trap: But It Doesn’t Have to Be
For 26 years now, I’ve been running Blade to Blade Lawn & Landscape here in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Over the past seven years, I’ve noticed a real trend emerging—something that’s reshaping how we think about mowing our lawns. And that’s the growing interest and implementation of robotic mowing. In this blog, I want to share my take on why so many homeowners and businesses are starting to move away from the old, time-consuming mowing routines and embracing these robotic solutions. It’s a shift that’s not just about convenience; it’s about stepping into a smarter, more efficient future for lawn care. For decades, Read more: https://www.springslawns.com/mowing-has-become-a-time.../

Mowing Has Become a Time Trap: But It Doesn’t Have to Be
Two Holy Grails plus two more...
Over the past year we have made two really big discoveries and recently made another two. The first two, I call the Two Holy Grails, they were the two things I wanted to prove right away when we started our program. These were Nitrogen fixation and improved water carrying capacity. After a soil test late last year we proved that we increased our soil Nitrogen, specifically Nitrate without applying any over an entire year. We pulled a report with over 70lbs/ac, more than double what is normal! This was due to and only possible with nitrogen fixing bacteria. The second Grail was the ability to go 10 days and then two weeks in 90° heat without watering. We achieved this with very minor stress and then when we watered the lawn bounced right back immediately, a sign of an efficient soil! Our method of watering also led to another discovery, that sallow watering oxidizes carbon in the soil. This is basically shooting yourself in the foot with your water bill. The final discovery was that we are in essence building a humus generating engine. Humus is the currency of the soil, it is the energy of the soil and is also what enables water retention. This is mandatory for all lawns, to build humus in the soil. Without it we are just wasting our time.

After nearly two decades of following the herd I had an awakening. The time for change is upon us. The model for the American lawn is broken.
