Another son of the St Joe Valley
Tuesday night my final(planned) son was born. the last time we had a child (middle one) I was working for the post office. I was being called and asked if I could come back to work the next day. I told them no, but I was already committed to starting my own brewery so I didn’t give a shit if they were mad about it. Start your own business. It’s scary, hard work, and thankless. But I’ll never miss a big moment again

Tank cleaning day
In my opinion these 5 or 7 barrel systems by Brewha are the best for small operations like mine. Small enough to be easily handled by one person with a harbor freight lift system, but big enough to produce enough beer to supply a small taproom at least. They’re all electric, so you deal with less red tape than you would with gas. And they’re space efficient since you mash, boil, ferment, and condition all in the same tank. Cleaning is easy and you don’t need to deal with harsh caustic cleaners since the boil is done in the tank before you drop yeast in it self sanitizes. They’re a company out of Canada. A little spendy but worth it if space is at a premium where you might wanna brew. They make small homebrew and pilot systems as well. Use code EntrePRObrewer5 if you’re ever in the market and save 5 percent!

A little snow and a Brew Day
Good morning! We finally got a little snow up here and I’m brewing up my dry Irish stout just in time for St Patrick’s day. Anyone else do anything special for the upcoming holiday?

We have a dry Irish stout as well! Thankfully it’s warmer over here. I’m enjoying some 50F weather today

IS....bureaucracy! Here is a list of all the licenses and permits we hold to function as a brewery business. Local - Alcohol license with county - Alcohol license with city - Special events: must obtain special permits from jurisdiction event takes place within (city if within city limits, county if outside city limits) State - Retail license - Wholesale license - Optional food: Food Permit for each location  - State dependent: Beer tax bond AND Wine tax bond for beer over 5% - State tax licensing= Seller’s permit, Beer tax permit, Wine tax permit (Idaho), Withholding tax permit - Register Federal - Register as a Federal FDA food processing facility. Must appoint ServSafe Manager to obtain food handlers permit - Obtain EIN - Register with the Department of the Treasury Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB)  Will receive a Brewer’s Notice Hiring Employees - Obtain Worker’s Comp Insurance Policy  - Report new hires to your state

It’s such a joke. At the other breweries I worked at we had to register under the department of agriculture who gave us an inspection every year and they treated us like a cheese factory so we all had to wear hairnets, but here we’re “deferred to the city” and the city never even checks lol. Just goes to show that there is no standard. Everyone is making it up as they go along.

@Grant Lee I'm not sure how punk rock you're willing to go, but I know there are breweries in California who are running as private membership associations and just skirting aroung it all.
