Goose is coming along great!
Been working on the retrieve quite a bit getting goose ready for the season, this will be her second season and she is steady to wing and shot (at least on Planted birds lol) Last hunting season she was puppy prancing with birds along with dropping them. Force fetch was on the table but to be honest her desire to retrieve is strong. I listened to @Jared Moss podcast “force fetch and Hold training”. That podcast opened my eyes and I didn’t realize that there was another option out side of force fetch, but since goose naturally retrieves quite well the “Hold” command made a lot of since to me. I’m not chasing ribbons and hunt way more than I play the NAVHDA game so a perfect retrieve is not something that is needed. I chose to work hold training. Pressure was not the focal point and forcing goose to a pile of bumpers isn’t in my cards. Check out the short clip of goose on my ring camera fetching a frozen pigeon.

Cant wait
Training Tip
The biggest mistake I see with steadiness training: handlers reward the sit, not the hold. Your dog has to learn that staying through the retrieve is what earns the mark, not just the initial sit. This session: send him on a retrieve, plant your feet, wait three full seconds after the bumper lands before the release. Do it 10 times. If he breaks, pick up the bumper and reset. No correction, no drama. That pause is where steadiness lives.

This right here is gold, I have learned that patience is everything. I fell in to the group of people that wanted a steady dog as fast as possible. Iv have since realized that enjoying the ride along the way is something most new to training miss.
Let's get a feel for where everyone's at right now
Quick check-in. What's the one thing you're most focused on with your dog this month? Drop it in the comments! Knowing where people are at helps me put out content that actually moves the needle for you.

Need to get my dog to swim, she fell in the pool at 3 months and found her own way out. There was some struggle as her nails were ground down to bleeding, scary stuff guys watch your pools…. She’s 15 months now and is great in the field but she is water shy still
New GSP PUP, What order do we start training
Hi Guys, Meet Archie, 8week old GSP! We are excited to get started in some training, and the classroom has all the knowledge we need, but I would love to know if someone has a schedule or order in which training should be done, ie: the order in which we should teach the pup each lesson what to start with and what to train next, like does recall come before leash work, when to teach heal at what point do we begin the training collar(I think that’s when he is getting to much to handle on the leash) just a bit of a guidance and order would be handy. Thanks a lot and already loving the group involvement

I agree with Jake! Also don’t rush anything, just let the pup be a puppy and bond with it. You have plenty of time, that dog will be hunting this fall and it’s gonna be great
