This Week in Space: New Crew on the ISSπ°οΈ
Hey cosmic thinkers, Want to know what's fresh off the launchpad this week? Weβve got an update on human spaceflight and a look at some massive cosmic events making news. New Arrivals Expand the ISS Crew: The International Space Station (ISS) just got a little more crowdedβand busier! A new trio of space travelers successfully docked with the orbital outpost, expanding the crew on board for the next two weeks Who Arrived? NASA astronaut Chris Williams, along with Roscosmos cosmonauts Sergey Kud-Sverchkov and Sergei Mikaev, safely arrived at the ISS on a Soyuz MS-28 spacecraft. The Journey? They launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan and completed a quick journey to the ISS. The journey involved a three-hour, two-orbit trip before docking with the stationβs Rassvet module. The Work? During his stay, Chris Williams will focus on scientific research and technology demonstrations. This includes installing and testing a new modular workout system for long-duration missions, supporting experiments to make cryogenic fuel more efficient, and assisting in designing new re-entry safety protocols for future crews. The Full Team? The new arrivals were welcomed by the existing Expedition 73 crew, which includes NASA astronauts: Mike Fincke, Zena Cardman, and Jonny Kim; JAXA astronaut Kimiya Yui; and Roscosmos cosmonauts Sergey Ryzhikov, Alexey Zubritsky, and Oleg Platonov. This means the total crew on the station temporarily reached 10 people. (Normally, the station accommodates a crew of seven, plus visitors). Expedition 74 will start soon, following the departure of three current members.
