"WE HAVE SEEN THE ENEMY" : Pogo's Lament
This poem is not pretty, and it may anger some folks tho how, will depend upon their political bent. I wrote it over a year ago and it is more current than ever with everything happening in America today. I saw the picture of a little girl floating face down next to her father and it just broke me hard! Illegals trying to cross to a better life. Even now as I write this preface I cry. I can only comfort myself by repeating to myself they are no longer suffering...while I wonder at the cruelty of those that look down on them and I wrote this poem out of pain! "WE HAVE SEEN THE ENEMY..." I want the aliens to come.. ..not the sad brown people.. ..crowding the chain link dog kennels, ..not the little brown beggars crying their mamas and papas names, as their souls are stripped bare for the whole world to see their sins of being born of the wrong womb, on the wrong side.. Of an invisible border. No, not the brown paupers with no understanding of theirs or their parent's crimes of attempting a delusional escape from hell instead leaping into the very maw of cruelty! No! no..no, I want to see the little green men of my innocence, The Martians.. That we can put a face to this fear, Put a definition to the xenophobia that grips so tightly 'bout the throats of this American culture that they can't even breathe! So that I too, can join in the audacity smashing disbelief that any foreigner seriously thinks they can come unrepercussed, Unrepentant even! To a land stolen fair and square! After all, Those before were ill-equipped to mine the riches of a promised land.. So let us teach them...meanwhile, We will reserve for them some land as we scrape the layers off the riches of our onion, Magnificently bartered out of both sides of our mouth! So YES! I look forward to the little green aliens, Riding in upon their magical little spaceships! A true alien..an inhuman invader with a belly full of scorn for a backward planet full of riches to exploit! Scorn for a race subhuman in their eyes with lacking knowledge of how truly to expose the richness of this onion world of backward bi-peds.

I love the sentiment, even though I don't agree with your political standpoint. It is a beautiful write.

@Victor Mendez Yes. I get the feel and the message. I just don't think forcing people to enter the country legally is wrong. Nonetheless, a beautiful write.
I'm Not
This is a reverse poem I wrote at a time when I was feeling bad about myself. I struggle with depression and anxiety. "I'm Not" I'm good for nothing I will never believe My life is meaningful I see the truth I'm worthless Even though my mind tells me I'm an amazing person I'm not Why am I so awful? (Now read from bottom to top)

I'm a mom of two wonderful boys, trying to discover who I am and what I'm meant for. I love to write, but struggle with writer's block.
