Job Descriptions + D in the Take Your Meds Challenge
Check out yesterday's challenge post and add your comments (you'll be entered into a drawing every time you comment) JOB DESCRIPTIONS Job descriptions aren’t sexy or exciting, but they are quietly one of the most foundational documents in all of HR. And they touch far more processes than most organizations realize – everything from recruiting and onboarding to compensation to legal compliance. Are yours up to date, and are you using a proper format? Head over to the CLASSROOM if you’d like a JOB DESCRIPTION TOOLKIT. It’s free and provides you with a roadmap for developing or updating your job descriptions. ⁉️How often are job descriptions updated at your organization?

We recently instituted a practice to review all job descriptions every 2 years, or sooner as requested. We tied this to our process of evaluating salary bands, heling us ensure jobs are mapped to the right salary bands. That provides an incentive for the managers to be sure to refresh job descriptions when duties have changed.
Pay increases - want your input
Several people have posted about this, so I would like to get input from everyone. ⁉️How do you handle pay increases? Cost of living, merit, or combo? And are they tied to the performance review process?

We provide a COLA in the Fall which is the same for every employee. We used to also add a merit component, but recently replaced that with an annual increase in the Spring, which is a consistent % but only paid if the organization has a successful year
HR Team of Two?
For any of you fortunate enough to have an HR team of 2, I am interested how you divide up the HR workload across two people. We are currently a team of one, and I have been in very large organizations before, but new to potentially expanding from 1 to 2!

HRIS
Hi everyone I am an HR Department of one here in the Triad. I am looking for a new HR/ Payroll system for my company as well as our sister organization. We have narrowed it down to UKG and Paycom. Just wanted to see if anyone has worked in either of these systems before and are able to share some insight or your experience working in them. I am currently in QuickBooks so this transition is long overdue.

We (Greensboro Science Center) use Paycom, and are mostly happy with it. Glad to try to answer specific questions - bscheppegrell@greensboroscience.org
INTRODUCTIONS & Announcements
I started the Badass Business Hub because I have been that department of one. And know that it can be overwhelming and isolating. But when we share ideas and support each other, HR gets a lot less scary. We are 65 members strong and have now closed out membership until January. Let’s kick things off — 👉 Introduce yourself in the comments! Tell us: ➡️What’s your current HR (or people-related role)? If it’s just one of your hats, let us know that. ➡️Share your organization and industry. ➡️How do you keep your sanity in your HR/people-related role? Next week on 11/13 at 10 a.m. EST, we will be online for a Hot Mess HR Roundtable to get to know each other and Q&A. Head over to the Calendar to add it to yours! Stay tuned tomorrow for a free resource! All of this (and more) is waiting in the Badass HR Hub — join the discussion 👇

I am responsible for HR and Finance at the Greensboro Science Center, and have 1 HR Generalist (so essentially a team of 1.5 FTE counting me). The GSC is a zoo, aquarium and science museum in Greensboro and we focus on inspiring people of all ages to learn about science and conservation. I keep my sanity by relying on a very small but mighty team - and I understand that is not available to all of the group. I am blessed to be in this role.

one of the biggest challenges of wearing the HR hat and other hats is being able to keep up with the regulatory requirements of the HR function - keeping your organization compliant when it is not your sole focus - would bei nterested in how others balance this risk
