🎵 Would You Use a SIMPLE Lyrics App?
I'm working on a new app at the moment and I'd really like some feedback from the gigging musicians in here before I go too far down the rabbit hole. The idea is deliberately simple. A lyrics and setlist app for musicians who DON'T need 400 features and an engineering degree to work out how to use it. 😂 It won't have MIDI or a heap of complicated automation. The focus is on making the things most of us actually need onstage really easy: - Create and organise setlists - Lyrics with simple autoscroll - Easily change the font size - Add chords directly into your lyrics - Clean, simple interface - Quick to set up and easy to use during a gig Basically, build your setlist, open the song, hit scroll and play. I'm already building it, but I'd love some input from people who actually gig. Would you use something like this? And more importantly, what ONE feature would you consider essential in a simple lyrics/setlist app? I'm deliberately trying to avoid feature creep, so don't turn it into the cockpit of a 747 just yet. 😂

I don't use midis, never liked auto scroll. I usually need help with lyrics more than chords and being my tablet is on the small side, (planning to get a bigger one) I don't use it. I go old school given my older aging eyes, and print out the lyrics just the way I want to view them. If I know the chorus, I won't print the whole thing, just the first line. I usually get everything on one page with large bold font. A Hard Rain is Gonna Fall was 2 pages. That said, there are a lot of songs that I would like to have a quick reference to, especially for requests. Sometimes I know the lyrics and just need the chords. Sometimes I know the chords and need the lyrics. Or I know the song well in my head but never played it so I'd need both. It might make you some money, it might not. Keep your day job...and night job.
🎤 Muso Question of the Week
What's a song you absolutely LOVE, but would NEVER play at a gig? Maybe it doesn't suit your voice, it's too obscure, goes on for nine minutes, has 14 chord changes before the first chorus, or you already know the audience would stare at you like you'd just started reading from the electricity bill. We all have songs we'd love to play if audiences weren't involved. What's yours, and why doesn't it make the setlist?

I do a 10 minute acoustic cover of Pink Floyd's Dogs. I use a harmonica for the two repeated guitar leads. Never do it at gig but occasionally will do at an open mic where the sound guy accompanies me on drums. It sounds so much better with the drums.

Oh... and Jethro Tull's Aqualung. Not an appropriate song for 99% of gigs. "Eying little girls with bad intent"... "Watching as the pretty panties run" Great song though.
🎥 Anyone Up for a Live Chat?
I'm thinking about organising a live group chat here on Skool and wanted to see if there's enough interest. Nothing too structured for the first one. Just a chance for us to actually meet each other, have a chat and talk about anything related to live gigging. Ask questions, swap stories, share ideas, complain about venues... all the important professional development stuff. 😂 If there's enough interest, I'll find a day and time that hopefully works for most people. So, who'd be up for it? Give me a YES below and let me know roughly where in the world you are so I can work around the different time zones. 👍

I play acoustic classic & folk rock. Looking to get more gigs. The information from Tod & the community is quite valuable.
