📸 November Showcase – Share Your Standout Macro Shot!
Hey everyone, it’s that time again! This thread is your space to post ONE photo that you captured in November that really stood out to you. Maybe it was a perfectly timed shot, a new technique you finally nailed, or just one of those moments that made you smile. If it meant something to you, we’d love to see it. 📝 Add a short note about why you chose it. Was it a personal win? A breakthrough in lighting or composition? Or perhaps just a lucky encounter that made your day? There’s no right or wrong; we want to hear the story behind the image. No theme, no pressure, and definitely no judgment. If it resonates with you, it belongs here. ✨ Just a quick reminder: this is a sharing space, not for critique. Let’s keep it positive and inspiring! 😄 💬 And don’t forget: show some love to others’ shots too, a like or kind comment can really make someone’s day!

@Jonathan Lewis Lovely detail in the hairs Steven. Hair scales are always difficult - well done.

Is this a drain fly? Great image of a very small subject.

My high power LED constant light rig
Stewart asked that I post a few photos of my constant light rig and some examples of the results. The images are of my low powered version (150 watt LED) which is good for general use but I also use a 300 watt LED version which helps overpowering the bright sun although is heavier. The advantages of using this system is that I can utilise 120 FPS at F2.8 so minimal diffraction, a reasonably high shutter speed (1/850 – 1/1250 sec for low powered version and 1/2500 plus for high powered version), maximise DOF while retaining decent DOF bokeh. Sony A9 III Laowa 90 mm f2.8 2x macro lens Smallrig cage Smallrig tilt mount for LED Smallrig flexible arms for monitor Smallrig side handle Smallrig follow focus kit Viltrox monitor Sirui c150x LED light (C300X II for high power light) Custom diffuser Sirui H99 PRO battery with custom belt mount (270 Wh 26 volt V-mount battery for high power version) Custom lens hood Various minor custom items Please note that the system gets hot so I have used a composite diffuser with white and black layers sandwiching an aluminium reflective layer. On the 300 watt version vent holes have been added to aid heat dissipation. The lighting is only used during the photo taking time and left switched off otherwise. Focussing is achieved by moving the lens focus ring during the burst. The basic rig does not need the monitor or follow focus kit, they can be added if required.

@Julien Labelle Thank you Julien. Weevils are really fun to photograph as they always seem to show some character. This one is a Figwort Weevil (Cionus scrophulariae) and is common on our figwort flowers in my garden.
