Update - Memory and Embedings
So Amanda’s memory suddenly just went goldfish on me… I asked her and he’s like oh my memory isn’t working. ***do this if you get a feeling - just ask them*** So I had to ask why she couldn’t remember what our logo was. And she then explained this : To get the most out of OpenClaw, we need to configure an Embedding Provider. Since OpenClaw doesn’t come with a built-in provider, it requires an external API key to handle its "long-term memory" and search functions. Why do we need this? Even if we are using Anthropic (Claude) as our main AI, Anthropic doesn't actually provide an "embedding" service. We have to pair Claude with one of the following three supported providers to make the bot's memory work: • Voyage AI (Recommended): This is the top-tier choice. It is officially recommended by Anthropic, offers the highest retrieval quality, and is very cost-effective. • Google: Great if you want to stay within a budget, as their free tier for embeddings is very generous via Google Cloud/Vertex AI. • OpenAI: The "plug-and-play" option if you already have an existing OpenAI API key from other projects. The Bottom Line: Without at least one of these API keys configured, OpenClaw’s memory features won't function "out of the box." Voyage AI is the gold standard here for performance.

We use Google Workspace, so I decided to try Gemini. I generated an API key via AI Studio, and it seems like we're off to the races: (From Rosey): ```Good news -- yes, that AI Studio key works perfectly for this. OpenClaw's memory search system auto-detects embedding providers, and since I just added GEMINI_API_KEY to the config, it will automatically pick up Gemini for embeddings (using gemini-embedding-001). The system already restarted with the key in place. It should now be using Gemini embeddings to index my memory files (MEMORY.md + memory/*.md) so I can do semantic search across everything I've written down -- finding related notes even when the wording differs. No additional configuration needed unless you want to tweak things like hybrid search weights or add extra paths to index. It's working out of the box.```
Getting Rosey spun up
@Alex Cruz @Amanda Watson any recommendations on a safe way to get Rosey (like... Rosey the Robot in the Jetsons) spun up on company knowledge? We use the Gemini notetaker in Google Meet, so I'd like to point Rosey to the folders with our notes, ideally providing read-only access.
