This Week's Challenge β€” The Manual Hold
Every week we set a new challenge to help you build real skills on the board. This week it's the manual hold β€” one of the best exercises for building balance and board control from scratch. No skatepark needed. Just your board and a patch of carpet or grass. Honestly? This is something I still need to work on too. So I'll be joining the challenge right alongside you this week. Check out the full challenge details. Everyone welcome β€” complete beginners included. Drop your time in the comments, share what you struggled with, and let's see how everyone improves through the week.

@Theo Bridgeman I know, failed at the end. I was actually going for a kickflip into the dirt but just didn't quite have enough speed but figured it was good enough hahaha

@Theo Bridgeman the biggest help with manuals, would be using your hips for a majority of the adjustments. That's where your center of gravity is, so smaller adjustments made from your core are going to be the most effective. Once you start using your shoulders and legs to make the majority of adjustments, it changes your center of gravity quite a bit even from small changes
What made you want to start skating?
There's always a moment. Something that made you think β€” I want to learn to skate. What was yours? πŸ‘‡

I honestly don't even remember. That was 28 years ago πŸ˜† considering it's something that has consumed probably around 40k hours, you'd think I would remember, but being 6 at the time, I don't know what sparked the original interest. I started around the time tech decks were released and before THPS came out, so I know it wasn't either of those things. I do however remember getting my very first skateboard for my 6th birthday

Which parks would you like to skate?
Was chatting with @Hannah Ware yesterday and we talked about the upcoming school holidays. Pizzey can be a scooter kid nightmare during school holidays, so I wanted to see if there are any other parks you’d like to skate? I’m thinking Varsity, Arundel, Weka Parklands (potentially going to be busy), Pimpama… any other suggestions?

Let's gooo!!! Love this! Nice work Kate, the would is your oyster now! Wicked approach to coaching this Theo. I agree, I'm not sure why people say to slam down the front of the board. Just causes unnecessary awkwardness are removes the flexibility of the front leg for adjustments

@Theo Bridgeman That's true, I've never been a fan of using that method to teach people but it definitely does work for some
