In the words of a wise Jedi Grandmaster... "Do or do not, there is no try." A strange statement on its face, but let's dig into this. Success is always found by zooming out over a longer time horizon. When I was 15, I was invited to a quincenera of a friend. This was when I 'learned' to dance Bachata and had my first dance performance. We practiced for weeeeeks on weeks, hearing the same Aventura song that I still remember the words to as a 33 year old. While I was improving, nothing about it was visually appealing and I beat myself up for how slow I was 'trying' to learn the routine. On the day of performance, my friends BIIIIG 15th birthday party..... we all bombed. Half of us missed practices because our parents couldn't take us or we were lazy. Ultimately, it was an embarrasing experience and I thought I'd never dance again. Fast forward 10 years, I got the itch again. Started dancing and STUCK. WITH. IT. Grinding day in and out, working on my fundamentals, learning the language of dance over various styles. Within 3 years I grew from a total noob to an international dance instructor.... because it was Do or Do Not. Either you want it or you don't. So the question going into 2026 is..... Do you want it?
