To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Question: Plastic shopping bags are used widely and cause many environmental problems. Some people say they should be banned. To what extent do you agree or disagree? Response: Plastic shopping bags have become an essential part of modern life due to their convenience and low cost. However, their widespread use has led to serious environmental problems. I strongly agree that plastic shopping bags should be banned because of their long-term damage to ecosystems and the availability of more sustainable alternatives. One major reason for banning plastic bags is their harmful impact on the environment. Plastic is non-biodegradable and can take hundreds of years to decompose. As a result, discarded bags often accumulate in landfills, rivers, and oceans. Marine animals frequently mistake plastic bags for food, which can lead to injury or death. Furthermore, the production of plastic bags requires fossil fuels, contributing to carbon emissions and climate change. Given these severe environmental consequences, continuing to allow their unrestricted use seems irresponsible. Another important consideration is that practical alternatives are readily available. Particularly, reusable cloth or paper bags are more environmentally friendly and can be used multiple times, reducing overall waste. Although some argue that banning plastic bags may inconvenience consumers or increase costs for businesses, such challenges are minor compared to the environmental benefits. In fact, several countries that have introduced bans or taxes on plastic bags have successfully reduced plastic waste without significant economic disruption. In conclusion, due to the serious environmental damage caused by plastic shopping bags and the existence of sustainable substitutes, I strongly believe they should be banned. Taking decisive action against single-use plastics is an important step toward protecting the environment for future generations. =============================================================================

My logical flow: agree 1. harm many species -> people throw it randomly and w/o do proper recycling -> cause plastic flow into the ocean -> marine creatures take them cuz they look like jellyfish -> resulting in those species cannot digest properly -> ultimately dying out 2. casue global warming -> consume lots of fossil fuels -> greenhouse gas emission -> ex: carbon dioxide -> increasing global temperature, leading to rising sea level and melting glaciers -> many species cannot live in severe weather conditions.
Understanding Lexical Resource in IELTS Speaking
Lexical Resource is one of the 4 scoring criteria which is 25% of your score in IELTS Speaking. It measures the range of vocabulary, ability to use fewer common ones, use of idiomatic expressions, ability to paraphrase, word choice accuracy and control of collocations. ────୨ৎ────────୨ৎ────────୨ৎ────────୨ৎ────────୨ৎ────────୨ৎ──── Here are Part 1 samples that clearly demonstrates Lexical Resource in IELTS Speaking. 🗣️IELTS Speaking Part 1 Topic: HOBBIES Question 1: What do you usually do in your free time? ❌ Weaker Lexical Resource Sample: “In my free time, I watch movies and use my phone. It is very relaxing and very interesting. I like watching different movies because it is fun and makes me very happy.” 🔎 Problems: - Relies on repetitive vocabulary “very” - Basic vocabulary (fun, happy, interesting) - Narrow range - No specific description ✅ Strong Lexical Resource Sample: ‘’Well, I tend to unwind by watching films, especially psychological suspense ones during my spare time. They’re utterly absorbing since they maintain a strong sense of anticipation. Moreover, it’s a great way to switch off after a hectic day and immerse myself in an entirely different reality.’’ ✔ Why This Is Better: - “free time” → spare time - “relax” → unwind / switch off - “interesting” → absorbing - Natural collocations: a strong sense of anticipation, hectic day - Greater lexical precision ─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── 🗣️IELTS Speaking Part 1 Topic: FOOD Question 1: Do you prefer eating at home or at restaurants? ❌ Weaker Lexical Resource Sample: ‘’I prefer eating at home because the food is good and cheap. At home, I feel comfortable and relaxed. However, restaurants are expensive and the food is not always good..’’ 🔎 Problems: - Overuse of “good” - Simple adjectives (cheap, expensive) - Limited variety - Insufficient topic-related words ✅ Stronger Lexical Resource Sample: ‘’I have a preference for homemade meals, mainly due to their health benefits and budget-friendliness. Making meals myself also gives me full control over the ingredients and the freedom to experiment with different tastes. Although dining out can be enjoyable, it tends to be overpriced and less nutritious.’’
