Passed My Second MikesLessons Session — Out of Her Mind (Full Video)
Two MikesLessons sessions submitted. Two passes. 🥁 This one is Out of Her Mind. Same deal as Just Friends — submitted through the Sessions feature, Mike Johnston reviewed it, passed me. I'm posting the full video here. Not a highlight, not the best moments — the whole thing. Because that's what Modular Mind Studio is about. The real build, documented. If you watched the Just Friends session you can probably hear a difference. That's what a few weeks of consistent practice looks like. On to the next one. What should session 3 be? Passed My First MikesLessons Session — Just Friends (Full Video)
First MikesLessons session — done and passed. 🥁 The song is Just Friends. I submitted it through the Sessions feature on MikesLessons where Mike Johnston actually reviews your playing and either passes you or sends you back to work on it more. He passed me. First submission, first pass. I'm posting the full video here so you can see the whole thing — not just a highlight clip. This is the real thing, mistakes and all. If you're learning drums and haven't tried MikesLessons yet I'd highly recommend it. Having a real instructor review your actual playing is a completely different experience than just watching lessons. Drop a comment if you've done a session before — what was your experience like? 👇

I Covered Gimme Shelter — Full Drum Cover (It's Not Perfect and That's the Point)
I did it. Full drum cover of Gimme Shelter by the Rolling Stones. 🥁 Not a highlight reel. Not a cherry picked take. The whole song, start to finish, bumps and all. If you know the track you know what Charlie Watts was doing on that kit — it's deceptively simple looking but getting the feel right, keeping the groove locked in for the full length of the song, and not falling apart during the transitions is a real challenge especially at this stage of learning. There are moments in this where I'm happy with what I played. There are moments where I can hear exactly what went wrong and other parts, I'm sure I am not playing correct at all. That's kind of the whole point of documenting this — being able to look back and hear the progress, even in the mistakes. Posting the full cover on YouTube if you want to watch the whole thing. The intro clip is up on TikTok and Instagram as a teaser. Drop a comment below — what song would you attempt as a beginner that most people would think is too hard? 👇

I Covered Gimme Shelter — Full Drum Cover (It's Not Perfect and That's the Point)
Been drilling RLK and RLKK fills today. 🥁
For anyone new here — RLK stands for Right Left Kick, and RLKK is Right Left Kick Kick. Two of the most fundamental fill patterns in drumming and honestly one of the first places where you really start to feel your hands and feet having to work together as a unit. It's humbling. Getting the kick to land exactly where it needs to while your hands are already moving on to the next hit is a whole coordination thing I didn't fully appreciate until I tried it. Still rough around the edges but I can feel it starting to click. That moment where your body starts to get it before your brain fully understands it is one of the coolest parts of learning drums. Dropping the clip below — would love to hear from anyone else who's worked through these patterns. What helped it click for you? 👇

What Modular Mind Studio is actually supposed to be
Let me tell you what Modular Mind Studio is actually supposed to be. Not just a room with gear in it. A space that works with my brain, not against it. I have ADHD. Which means a traditional "sit down and practice for an hour" setup doesn't really work for me. So I'm building something different — a studio where I can jump between drums, pads, piano, production, whatever's pulling my attention that day — and still feel like I'm making progress. The dream version of this space has a full acoustic drum kit, a proper production setup with a DAW I actually know how to use, pads for when I want to experiment, and keys for when I want to slow down and learn something melodic. All of it in one room. All of it accessible. No friction. Right now it's a work in progress. A stand here, a piece of gear there. But every addition gets it closer to the vision. That's what I'm documenting here — not a highlight reel of someone who already figured it out. The whole messy, ADHD, learn-as-I-go build. If you're building something too — a studio, a skill, a creative space — drop it below. What does YOUR dream setup look like? 👇
