Thanks to @Paul Spencer who alerted us to the fact that OpenAI is closing Sora - its video generation app. It only launched six months ago! It says the compute cost for video generation is too high to make it a viable product. This follows the announcement that it is closing its shopping feature too. It was only weeks ago the AI giant signed a huge licensing deal with Disney! Did they secretly sell it? Wikipedia updated its listing just three hours ago to reflect this change https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sora_(text-to-video_model) Is this the end of AI video or are there better tools that people use? I would love to hear your thoughts.

Yesterday I mentioned in class that I’d posted my first reel on Instagram that includes AI video. I’ll pop the link below. It’s not perfect, but it was a good exercise for me as I’ve been intrigued how it could be used and if it would be effective. I used Runway for the first time, that although I liked and was easy to pick up straight away and use, I did get frustrated by their token system. Definitely a benefit to be more proficient now with prompting as I’ve been on the course - otherwise they’d be used up really quickly! Not sure how often I’ll do similar in the future as it was quite time consuming, but I do think it could be really handy for B-roll when I don’t have the right props at hand. I did have 3 AI video clips to start with, but changed to be a blend of just 2 with a real video clip of me (which I think is better as I’m quite fussy that I’m authentic for my brand).
