Snowpocalypse 2026
Wow! That was a lot…of SNOW. I first thought that with most of the country locked in for the big one, that maybe that was our opportunity to have some building time. But I thought better of it when power outages were part of the conversation. Now that the worst is hopefully over…. How did you all fare?

Here in the foothills of the Sandias in Albuquerque, New Mexico, we lucked out at the last minute and only had an inch or so stick to the ground for any time. Sadly, though, we learned our roof had a leak and after getting repair estimate of over $15K, we've got a major stressful adventure ahead.
Reminder: Coffee With Kelli Here Tomorrow Morning
I just checked The Gingerbread Studio Calendar and was reminded that we have an opportunity to join @Kelly Hilberth for coffee LIVE here in the studio. I plan to attend. Will you be joining us, too?

Well, I didn't see any notifications for the LIVE. After clicking the link on the calendar and finding no one there, I skipped. Checking in here now and I don't see a replay.
Gingerbread House Featured in Wilton Yearbook 1977
This morning I found a gingerbread house featured in the 1977 edition of Wilton Yearbook, published by Winton Enterprises Inc. in June 1976. The gingerbread recipe as well as cake decorating instructions are included. Would you like me to share them with your community, here, @Kelly Hilberth

Please note that table I photographed this yearbook on is over 200 years old. 🤗❣
Why a Gingerbread House group?
As I refine my vision for this group, I am reminded to ask myself WHY? And I can honestly say that I wish I had a group like this years ago when I was flailing as a gingerbread house maker. I had ideas, but needed help with execution. I read baking books cover to cover, but nothing was as beneficial as actually getting into the real life building of gingerbread houses. So, I hope to be the group I never had for myself. I hope this will save you hours...maybe years...of frustrating builds.

Kelly, your “why” really struck a chord with me. As I mentioned in another comment here, I’m not in a season where I can build gingerbread houses anymore, but I remember so clearly what it felt like to learn, experiment, and sometimes struggle through those early builds. What you’re creating here is exactly what so many of us needed back then: a place where ideas can grow, where mistakes become lessons, and where creativity feels supported instead of overwhelming. The fact that you’re offering the group you wish you’d had says so much about your generosity and your passion for the craft. 🤗❣

I can only imagine decorating gingerbread houses at this stage in life. I used to decorate them for every season. Here’s what I imagined for Valentines Day.

@Kelly Hilberth Albeit that you and I met through ballooning, I had no idea you had a passion for gingerbread house decorating until you invited me to The Gingerbread Studio. The culinary arts have long intrigued me as my grandmothers and four of my aunts were competitive in that arena. My grandmother learned the artistic side of food from working for a caterer for over 30 years. I still have some of my decorating tools and a few Wilton magazines from back in the day. I've enjoyed seeing what I could whip up in the culinary arts with AI since 2022. 🥰
