Emergency repair
Here's a few shots of an emergency repair I was called out to over the Christmas period. It was a waste water facility. 316L stainless steel Insurance passed off all welding, passed DPI and hydro test. Bread and butter work. Happy new year guys.

@Carlos Molina thank you carlos. This was a one off type of job. The time of year, my welder quals being in date, how fast i could do the turn around, all played a part in the price i charged. I wont write it here publicly but it was too good to turn down. Having said that all parties were extremely happy with the outcome so it was a fair price.

December Challenge Update ❄️ 💪🏻
To those of you who didn’t see the December challenge post there is still time! Comment “I’m In” and get welding and posting so that you can get a good habit of working towards your goals and make some progress BEFORE the new year starts. To those of you who did comment “I’m In” and actually made posts you guys are guaranteed to win at life if you continue to put in more and more time and effort towards improving and reaching your goals. I’m talking to you @Scott Birch @Ethan White @Vincent Tremblay @Carlos Molina @Brantley Reeves and anyone else who took action in December and made a contribution to this community either asking for help or offering information. You guys are the reason I do this. I want to see you get better and I want to see you help others get better that is how I know i’m achieving my goals with the work I put into this. Don’t take this as a sign that you’ve won, use it as fuel to win again and again and to continue your efforts and multiply them! To those of you who commented “I’m in” and didn’t follow through. Do you feel good about that? Did that move you towards your goals? Would you rather have been mentioned in the previous paragraph as someone who is making progress and helping themselves and others? I’m talking to you @Stephanie Parker @Rick Chamberlain @Roy Houston @Ralfs Dreimanis @Jorge M. Jaramillo @Aaron Mugridge I made this post not to condemn you but to tell you there is still time. I want to be able to mention you and congratulate you at the end of the year so get on it! Let’s see a post using the “write something” bar at the top of the community page. Get in the shop, run some welds, take a picture, and ask for help on how to improve or share some work that you believe you’ve done well give others tips to do it as well!

I vote no pass, theres a few things that grant pointed out, but the main failure point for me is welding it downhill. Especially if it has structural applications. Genuine question, do you do mig a lot or is it a skill youre learning?

@Brantley Reeves we are all always learning brother. my honest opinion is if i were doing structural work like that id be looking to get more comfortable welding positional. And get comfortable with the basics of material prep.
First time welding titanium!
First of all, I want to give a huge shoutout to @Grant Pratt for sending this out to me. Without him I wouldn’t have been able to experience this amazing material! Here was my set up, #16 cup, 3/32 thoriated tungsten(wouldn’t recommend, use lanthanated) 35 CFH. I think the filler was .45 I don’t know the exact type Grant sent them with the piping 🙏. Purged the inside with 3D printed plugs (10 cfh). Titanium is strange but easy and pleasant to weld with ( in my opinion), I honestly prefer it over SS. The arc and puddle were supper stable but very liquid. I noticed I needed to weld much slower then I would with SS to get proper penetration. Here are a couple of pictures of my welds. Once again I can’t thank Grant enough for this Thank you!

@Vincent Tremblay thats exactly what i mean. You can make them out of stainless steel or copper fairly easily though for a fraction of their price and theyre just as effective if not better. Ill grab some pics of my self made copper ones the next time im in my shop

Pipe Welding
Heres a few shots of some Super Duplex SCH160 1.5"DIA pipe ive been working on. The fabrication is a cooling coil for the Oil and Gas sector, I cant post the actual job but this is an extra joint that had to be cut out and i thought it was perfect to post here. Root - 70A Hot pass - 100A Fill - 105A Cap - 115A The WPS specifies an interpass temp of 60°C that must be adhered to. All welds on the job are 100% X-RAY, including DPI and a ferrite check before pickling and passivation.

@Vincent Tremblay they are very strict. The issue they have is having welders not stick to the procedure and then the consistency is lost. I totally understand their reasoning behind the constant monitoring. The chief welding engineer doesnt allow weaving, he never has. He says its due to the energy input being double per weld pass. As i say im no welding engineer, I take his word at face value or i dont get the contract

@Grant Pratt it gets used a lot in the oil and gas and petrochdmical industries. But aside from the welding parameters i mentioned above its not difficult to weld, its almost identical to stainless steel.
