"Long-Term Resident Status" - Who knew? NOT ME!!!
Long-Term Resident Status is an EU directive status for third-country nationals who have legally and continuously lived in an EU member state for at least five years. It grants the holder greater rights, including the ability to work, study, and reside in other EU countries, and provides more stability than a temporary permit. The status requires a stable and regular income, health insurance, and a clean record. Key benefits - Enhanced mobility: The status allows you to live and work in other EU countries more easily than with a standard residence permit, although you may need to meet certain conditions in the new country. - Equal treatment: You are treated equally with nationals regarding work, study, and access to services. - Stability: It provides indefinite residence rights and strengthens security of tenure.  Eligibility - Legal residency: You must have lived legally and continuously in an EU member state for at least five years. - Financial stability: You must have stable and regular income to support yourself and your family without relying on social assistance. - Health insurance: You must have health insurance that covers all risks in the member state. - Accommodation: You need to have a place to live. - Integration: You may be required to meet national integration requirements, such as language proficiency.  How to apply - Apply in the EU country where you have been residing legally for five years. - The application process involves providing proof of your legal and continuous residence, financial stability, and health insurance. - In Portugal, applications are processed by AIMA (Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum). - Your family members must meet the requirements individually to apply for their own status.

According to the info I've seen, the EU LTR card takes the place of a residence card, and having one can put you on a fast track to gaining full Residency in another EU country, including lowering private health insurance requirements. It's worth looking into for non-EU citizens considering moving from one EU country to another.
AIMA support group thread: Who has renewal hacks or info to share?
OK, let's get the jokes out of the way ... AIMA stands for"AY! AY! AY! MA" or "An Inability to Make Appointments" Let's get our heads together here and share insight and hacks on moving those renewals forward and getting our updated residency cards. Starting with the Russian WhatsApp group crowd-fund idea!

The first link includes ".If" from the next sentence, so I tried http://services.aima.gov.pt/RAR/reqrenew%7D but got a "not found" message. Can anyone clarify if that is the correct link even though it's not working?

FYI, for anyone who's still dealing with this: On 14 October I was able to complete the registration process and request my renewal at the AIMA site using the link above (thanks Carl!!). Within a few days they contacted me with the info I needed to make my payment - €181.50 - and now I'm waiting for the official paid receipt to be available "within10 days.".

I have not received my email from AIMA yet. Do you know the residency expiration date of the person who received that email? I saw a comment somewhere online by a person whose expiration date was in 2023 and they got just their emailed notice on July 31. If that's accurate I suppose I shouldn't be antsy about not getting mine yet, but it's AIMA, so it seems appropriate to be a little antsy. Mine expired in March 2024.
Renew residency
Boa tarde. On the show this morning, Monday, Bob and Viv say that there is info about how to make an appointment to renew residency. I've looked around on GMP and in the Youtube links but haven't found any access to that info. Can someone tell us where to find it? I've been trying to make an appointment but have had no luck. Obrigado!
