Day 62 - Lyon
Offtt testing me today, he's been wild around other dogs and people, honestly having Lyon on lead can be like flying a kite!! He's wants to speak to everyone and just flings himself around. I'm not overly worried but I'm aware the excitement could flip into frustration. A bit of condition training at home and some heel on our walk and then it was training class where he was wild as a hawk but managed some nice heelwork and food refusal. The long stay was non existent 🙈 I know the inconsistency is age appropriate....I can't wait until he is a year old, 5 months to go 😱

Hahaha the rollercoaster of puppies! I can only say I’m glad I’m not the only one on this journey 🤣 Take a deep breath, give him a cuddle and I bet tomorrow is going to be an amazing training day ❤️
Day 80 🥳 - conditioning and little heeling
Another day of conditioning. I’m actually soooo bored with the program now but I do understand that we need to build it up slowly. It takes me about 20min 4 times a week so I feel that’s all we train atm. I’m also being a bit dramatic 😄 Couple of heelwork steps in the end for some fun. Moving back in the middle position because he keeps trying to turn his head to look at me from the side and that makes him hop 🐰

@Sally Argo I don’t mind the time if it’s spent on fun stuff, not square sits and downs. It’ll be great for him long run so I’m sure I can manage 🤣
Day 79- car crates
Big beach walk in the morning. It’s warming up so both dogs enjoyed a swim. Oreo HATES the wash off after so another challenge added to the list. I had to let my neighbor know he’s very much alive and fine despite the screaming 🙈 PM- crate training with car crates. I thought they will freak out but they really couldn’t care less. Frank even didn’t want to come out in the end. That’s a win in the books 😄

@Sally Argo honestly so far everything I thought will be hard he’s fine with and everyday tasks are a mission. Nail clips- no problem Bath- murder 😅 Life is too boring so get a terrier they said 😅
Day 61 - Lyon
am - conditioning stuff Lunchtime - hunting and retrieving pm - longest walk yet, only a wee bit of training stay and heel. Such a good day Still working on Lyon understanding he has back feet, I think it needs a few short sessions over one day but he is improving. Had fun on our long walk, that was 1.5hrs in the woods, he is 7 months now and I don't expect him to grow much more so I think I can take the brakes off a wee bit 2 or 3 times a week?

What a cool day. I’m about to watch a lecture about exercising puppies and growth plates etc from Jo Rosie. I let you know if there is anything interesting. How is he with back steps? I find they really help with back leg coordination

@Sally Argo it would be good to see. I’m in no means pro but I have worked with conditioning coaches and Physio’s for years now for Frank. Main thing I had to get my head around is that it’s completely different to our regular training. Not using markers and never fading the lure. Goal is always full lure. Like I said before I never mark because I like an explosive response to the marker (jump out of position) which is a big no for conditioning. I also use an open and closed lure a lot which helps. We’ll have a look and I’m sure you’ll have it in no time 😊
Day 60 🙌 - Lyon
I was away on a day out to see my friends new horse and discovered horses give Lyon the zoomies. I've always been around horses until recently so he is my first dog that knows nothing about them. It was interesting and a wee bit sad. Didn't do any training just walked around, he was on his flexi. On the way home there was a big crash on the main road and then crashes on the diverted roads so I couldn't get home for hours. We pulled over at one point on the hill road and did some retrieves into the heather. He did brilliant, he was beginning to get his eye in and do less searching. My pet brain wants him searching for ages on every retrieve but my gundog brain loves to see him judge well where the dummy landed and have minimal searching.
