Aksel 2nd session on scent
So proud of him, he did a great job and I think we can start working on longer indications.

Oh wow! Look at him go. This looks super nice. Definitely can start adding duration. Just mix it up and sometimes reward straight away and then others wait a bit 😊

After some time off he also did great! I added some time to the hovering before rewarding which is why I didn’t rewarded before he laid down but he did hover while laying afterwards which was funny!

Look at him go! He's such a sweet boy. I love your timing so much. You have time to think and get it just right. Also how funny is him laying down and still indicating haha. He’s like “I might aswell get comfortable here” 🤣 Watch him with slippery floors it does seem that his legs might get bit tired and little mat would help. Great work team 🙌
Dagny 2nd session on scent
Not as good as the first one. I wanted to add a few seconds before rewarding but I ended up rewarding when she looked up at me 🫣 Also she decided to try out the down indication so to keep it clear I didn’t rewarded that and only rewarded when her nose came over. I didn’t help her much when she was looking at me because I know she knows it and prefer that she figure it out. We will work on adding more time again on the hover indication before adding me not facing her so she doesn’t look at me for the reward. P.S.: the whining is Harper who was not happy to not be involved.

This is really nice! You could work on the coin or lid slightly longer until you’re really happy with the indication before introducing scent. That way you won’t need to worry about timing so much. She’s very fast so you’re doing really well waiting her out. Don’t let her rush you and make you reward faster haha. I would try and reward right next to the tin for now, you can see her scanning around trying to see where the treat goes. If it’s super predictable and always next to the tin she can relax more and keep the nose down. Then you can add the throws away. For me personally I’m not bothered by the downs until nose is on the tin. They eventually figure out that it’s the hover that pays and won’t bother going into the down. If it’s important for you that she doesn’t from the start then yes definitely ignore the down and wait for the hover or even reset her. Really nice work 🙌
Dagny begins on real scent
Yesterday session. After some time off she did really great with the hovering. My timing was a bit off a few times. I tried moving around so I am not facing her every time but she’s turning with me. I’ll work on it as we progress or change the situation.

This lovely! Take your time with the foundations and don’t rush it 😊 I would start slowly with your movement. One tap of the foot to start with, little baby step. I’ll film a video over the weekend on how to add duration using a bridge.
Where are you at?
I would love to hear what stage you’re at with Scent Detection? This helps me space out the new learning 🐕

@Fiona Austin this looks great! Little buggers they do come out often haha. Franks favorite is pulling the vial out and throwing it at me 🤣 For longer duration you can skip the marker and just throw the treat at the hide. This will keep the nose hover. I will then add a bridge marker like “goooooood” to let them know they have done a good job and wait for the treat ☺️
