Working note
I've noticed something interesting about my drafts lately that I'm struggling to put my finger on. When I start writing, the first few paragraphs are always really close to the main point. They're usually messy, the sentences are bumping into each other, and you can hear the idea under the surface, but it's not sharp yet. The shift happens about halfway through: the writing suddenly cleans up. The paragraphs get neat, and the language starts sounding like I'm presenting final answers instead of genuinely exploring the questions. I’ve actually been trying out using AI to intentionally slow myself down. I ask it to find the things I'm assuming are true, or point out where the text acts like something is settled when it’s still up in the air. Sometimes it helps me see where I’ve rushed ahead. Other times, it just confirms I’m exhausted. This whole piece is definitely not done. I don't know the proper conclusion yet, and I'm purposely holding back from making one up just to feel finished. I'm sharing this mainly as a kind of progress note. This is the stage I normally sprint through. If you're stuck on a piece that feels like it's in this same kind of draft-limbo, feel free to share it. If you're just reading along, that’s great too.

Welcome to the Drafting Room
This is a quiet working space for people who write and think at the same time, and who sometimes get stuck in that overlap. You don’t need to introduce yourself right away. You don’t need to explain what you’re working on. You’re welcome to read for a while, or to post something small and unfinished if that feels easier. Most conversations here happen around drafts, questions, and moments of uncertainty. Polished work is fine, but it isn’t the point. Clarity usually comes later. If you want a bit of orientation, there’s a short Classroom item called “How This Room Works.” It’s not a course to complete. It just lays out the shared norms around using AI thoughtfully, sharing drafts, and participating at your own pace. Take what’s useful. Leave the rest. If you’re not sure where to begin, you can start by: - posting a paragraph you’re unsure about - naming what you’re trying to write but can’t yet - or simply staying quiet until something shifts This room is built for return. There’s no rush! Glad you’re here.

I design work systems that forgive interruption, mostly because I need them to.
