Congrats Darren!
It's Monthly Giveaway Time!
I'll spin the wheel on 30 June. All you need to do is make a comment in this thread to go into the draw. Your comment needs to be something about you that we don't know, just like last time 🙂. The prize will be something stampy, hopefully to suit your collecting habits, with a minimum value of US$10 The first two winners were @Stacey Youlios and @Anthony Griffen. You could be next!

@Dave Sheridan ow okay. I have a collection of sort and one of it is an old 1855 New York Tribune newspaper where i expensively framed it due to its fragile in nature and will probably last for another 100yrs - not for me to witness. The world we know now is very different when it was, discussion is more on slavery, etc.

@Dave Sheridan i get it from a successor of the original collector who is collecting of sort things too. Some foxing appeared in some areas specially the front page
I'm not too well today, so here's my cat!
Murphy, an ex street-cat who is now the fussiest cat on the planet. He's almost 16 and not spoilt at all

Get well soon Dave. Don’t stay too long with your stamp at the moment just relax maybe have some hot drinks and have fresh air outside.
Some auction houses have no idea what they're doing
We assume that auction houses have the knowledge required to sell collectables, but that is definitely not always true. This auction house is selling 144 painfully common US stamps in a weathered stockbook, with an opening bid of $30. Everything in the book can be purchased at 1c or less. Now look at the estimate they've placed on the lot, $65-$10,000. They should stay in their lane and you should avoid listings like this like the plague

It may have simply been a decimal point error. Those stamps are very common, and there are plenty of duplicates around. 😊 I remember seeing them regularly on the free tables at some stamp clubs. This is exactly why it’s important to join groups like this and learn a bit before starting a stamp collection. Otherwise, it’s easy to be misled by some auction houses or individual sellers into thinking common stamps are worth far more than they actually are.
Humidity is the enemy
I live in a sub-tropical area of Queensland, where the humidity is always 60-75%, and on the really humid days can be as high as 95%. For someone that dislikes humidity, it's akin to hell. Stamps and humidity don't mix, and I've suffered some substantial losses, mainly of German and Canadian stamps, where they have adhered themselves to stockcards and stocksheets. The gum used by those two countries seems to be particularly susceptible to humidity and once stuck, they stay stuck. Humidity also creates mould, another sworn enemy of stamps. To minimise the losses, I use disposal dehumidifiers (up to four in a bedroom-sized area), but I'm gearing up for the next peak with a digital hygrometer to measure humidity in the room. They're very cheap and highly recommended. I don't plan on having any more losses.

I shared similar experienced with humidity, the very first mint album of USA that I owned are stocked permanently in the album pages :( very sad.. worst day of my collection) yes, i have to use dehumidifier from time to time. I am thinking of a project to automatically activate dehumidifier when it's humid enough.
