🪴 Plant of the Day: Prayer Plant AKA: Maranta leuconeura (The "Living Plant")
• Type: Tropical Perennial / Low-growing Evergreen. • Lighting: Bright, indirect light. Direct sun will bleach those gorgeous patterns right off the leaves! ☀️ • Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist (but not soggy). They are sensitive to tap water, so filtered or rainwater is their "champagne." 🥂 • Soil: A well-draining, peaty mix. Think 2 parts peat moss, 1 part loamy soil, and 1 part perlite. • The "Prayer": They get their name from nyctinasty—the way their leaves fold upward at night like hands in prayer. I’ll be honest—I didn’t realize this beauty was a crawling/trailing plant! 🤦♀️ I had it sitting in a standard pot, wondering why it looked like it wanted to make a run for it.🏃💨 Once I realized it naturally wants to spread out horizontally and "creep" along the ground (or over the sides of a container), I made some moves:💡 1. The Re-Pot: Swapped it into a smaller clear nursery pot the one it had was too big !! 2. The Chop: I took a cutting to propagate it. I added it to another cutting I had. 3. The Boom: Tucked those babies back into the soil, and BOOM—instant fullness. 💥 It’s no longer just a plant; it’s a whole vibe now. 🌿✨
