@Paula Smith Accidentally stumbled across Wonkey Donkey one day at the library. My little guy thinks it’s fantastic.
What book had the biggest impact on you as a parent/teacher?
For me, Reading Reflex by Carmen and Geoffrey McGuinness had the most impact on me as a teacher.

Looking forward to exploring resources shared here. I don’t have one to share yet.
Resource for parents of struggling readers
If your child struggles with reading, this one’s for you. I put together a short, easy-to-read guide to help parents recognize the signs of a struggling reader and understand what those signs actually mean. It’s called Frustration to Fluency, and you can grab it free here 👉 Frustration to Fluency ebook After you read it, tell me — which sign do you see your child displaying most often? 💬

Numbers 5 and 7 were my greatest challenge. My son would know how to read "and" or "cat" one day and they would be a totally new word the following day. He always switches "and" with "the". The other issue was how much he dreaded reading. We both cried during most lessons. We have found an approach that has been good so far for both of us. But first and foremost, I learned to let him know that we would stop at 20 minutes. That was HUGE! He set the timer and worked hard but was glad to know it would end soon.

@Paula Smith Yes. All About Reading has been a huge help. I have seen a huge confidence boost after starting this program.
Start here!
🎉 Welcome to Reading Skool! Hi everyone! 👋 I’m Paula, Founder of Reading Success Academy and the host of this community. I started Reading Skool because I’ve seen too many kids struggle with reading when the right support could completely change their future. This space is for parents and teachers to connect, learn, and encourage one another. You’ll find free lessons, courses, and live events designed to help struggling readers and kids with dyslexia succeed. 💬 Your Turn: I’d love to hear from you! What’s one challenge your child or student faces with reading right now? Or, if you’re a teacher, what’s one thing you wish parents knew about helping kids read? Drop your answer below so we can start the conversation—and remember, no challenge is “too small” to share. Every question you ask helps another parent or teacher here. 💡 Can’t wait to get to know you all! —Paula

Hello from Georgetown, TX. I have my Masters of Ed with a specialty in Reading and yet I am struggling when it comes to teaching my youngest child to read. He is 9 years old, dyslexic, amazing when it comes to Math, and frustrated when he has to sound out words. He has made huge strides this year and I look forward to learning more about dyslexia and reading strategies that build the confidence of this type of learner.
