CapCut’s New Terms Are Dangerous | FYI: Owners, Creators, & Team Members
If you are a community owner, content creator, or a team member inside a community, this is important information you need to know if you are bringing in outside traffic & using CapCut. CapCut quietly updated their Terms of Service on June 12, 2025. Most people have not read them. You should. Here is what this means for creators. First, you give them full rights to everything you upload. That includes video, audio, images, voiceovers, even drafts you never publish. They can use your content forever. They can alter it, monetize it, and use it for AI training. You give them worldwide rights that never expire. You cannot revoke them. Second, it puts you at legal risk. If you upload a draft to test music or sound effects you do not have full rights to, you are still fully responsible for any copyright violations. Even if you never publish the video. The draft sitting in your account can still be stored, processed, or repurposed. And if there is any legal issue with that content, you could be the one getting sued. Third, they can use your name, voice, and likeness in ads or promotions without telling you. You give up any claim to how your face or brand might be used. Fourth, you lose most legal protections. You cannot join a class action if something goes wrong. You are forced into private arbitration, and the timeframe to even file a dispute is limited. Lastly, they make no promises to protect or save your content. If your drafts disappear, you have no recourse. CapCut was once a great free tool. This update changes everything. You are giving up control over your work and exposing yourself to unnecessary legal risk. If you create content for clients, brands, or your own business, you need to find a safer option. (If I hear an update, I will try to remember to post it. But this is the current situation.) πŸ‘‡ If you know safer alternatives to CapCut, drop them in the comments so others can check them out.

Skoolers, Affiliates, Merge, News, Owners Only... | What You Need To Know
You are going to see a lot of new changes happen in Skool, especially with the Skool owned communities. Skool Community & Skool Games are merging into Skoolers. You will have to be an owner of a community to be in there and you will be removed if you're not an owner. (We can discuss what this means for supportive roles, if you'd like. Comment if you do.) This change has been in the making for a bit and it's here to stay. So let's look for positive ways to change perspectives if there is any negativity around the change. (Change happens and it's not fun for some.) Affiliates is going to for sure be here March 3rd. There is a launch party. Try to be there. If not, I will make sure to have a recap at some point. (People in Mastermind be ready for a call following the launch party.) Skool News is going to be LIT! 😎 It'll be a classroom in the Skoolers community. πŸ‘‡ Questions, Comments, Concerns, Just wanna share something? πŸ‘‡

@Jenna Ostrye Sounds good. I asked one of the Admins if 3/1 (Friday) would be safe, and they said yes. So at least I know we have until the end of the week...

Don't Kick Level 1s | Sam's New Statement Linked πŸ‘‡
I know I've already made my statement on reasons why not to kick level 1 members. But some were saying what about Discovery?? Well here you go. Sam said it himself: "inactive members wont hurt your rank in discovery." If you want to read my other reasons, then you can see my post here on the subject: Don't Kick Your Level 1's | Build Better Communities

I don't know the overall Skool metrics, but I've been in a few groups where the 1's were removed. I didn't/don't really care for the strategy. Just as it takes a certain number of touch-points for a sale, I'm sure there's a similar stat that will become evident for Skool groups over time.

Build Better | Don't Kick Level 1's (Here Is Why)
I have had several conversations in the past 2 weeks about Level 1 members and if people should kick them. Had 2 conversations today and then also Calvin posted about it in Skool Games. What are level 1's? People who have not engaged or very little engagement within the community to the point they haven't reached level 2 on the leaderboard. Some call them Lurkers, Procrastinators, etc. Well there are a few things I would like to share with everyone so that this perspective and some facts about communities is fully explained for all wondering about it. There are so many reasons a person would choose to stay level 1 and not engage. (This is from studies I've found.) - Lack of understanding. They may not understand the community vibe or the platform. No one wants to feel stupid or like they did something wrong, so they just stay in observer mode. It's also why we must communicate it, because we can not expect them to ask. - They are content with just observing. - They may have had a bad experience in other communities. - They don't have the mental capacity or energy to engage back and forth the way they would want to. - They have a high level position in either their job or in society and can not take the risk of being noticed in the community, but they really want to learn from you. Offering more options to speak just 1:1 with you can help, especially if you have established trust within the way you show up to your community. - They may be socially awkward or introverted. Creating a safe place for them to feel comfortable can really make a huge impact on their sense of belonging and acceptance. There could be even more valid reasons, but these are the ones off the top of my head. Myth going around: "You need to kick level 1's, because it hurts your numbers in discovery." That is not true and I have spoken to Skool directly about this. Yes, your discovery is going to increase, if your people are active and engaging. Having inactive members does not harm you in any way, (except maybe your ego) and it is very normal and healthy to have a large amount of level 1's. Great job if you can encourage them to move up the levels, but not force them.
