Well… it’s been a long weekend here in the UK🐣
Tell me I’m not the only one who’s completely lost track of what day it is?! 😅 Between Easter chocolate, family time, and “I’ll just do a quick bit of crochet”… (we all know how that ends 👀)… It’s been one of those weekends! So I’m curious… 👉 Did you get any stitching time in? 👉 Start something new… or still side-eyeing that WIP pile? 😅👉 Or did you actually take a proper break? I’ve been having a little think over the weekend too… about how much I love seeing what you’re all creating, helping when you get stuck, and those little “aha!” moments when something just clicks. And it’s exactly why I created the Mosaic Overlay Crochet Hub. Inside there, it’s a bit more… ✨ in-depth✨ step-by-step ✨ proper support as you go …rather than just the quick bits we can do here. If you’ve ever thought: 👉 “I wish I properly understood mosaic overlay” 👉 “I want to feel more confident reading charts” 👉 “I’d love a bit more guidance as I go…” …then you’d absolutely love it in there. No pressure at all — just wanted to open the door for you. BUT for now… Tell me 👇What’s currently on your hook right now? 🧶
🧶 Quick note for anyone working on mosaic projects…
If you’ve ever felt unsure about how to finish your edges or what border to use, I’ve added lessons inside the Mosaic Overlay Crochet Hub that walk you through it step by step 👇 ✨ Simple borders✨ Envelope borders✨ Clean finishing techniques So you can go from “this looks a bit unfinished” to a really polished, professional result 💙 The Hub is a paid classroom (just $5/month), and you don’t just get the lessons — you can also: • Ask questions as you go • Get 1:1 help with your projects • Request tutorials or breakdowns if something’s not clicking It’s very much a learn as you go, supported space 😊 If you’d like access, just click the classroom tab and select the Mosaic Overlay Crochet Hub Course, which will take you through the payment process.

What Makes This Work?
One of the things that separates a good mosaic overlay design from a great one is how the image reads from a distance. Looking at the Moonlit Winter Stag design, I deliberately kept the stag silhouette bold and simplified so it remains clear when worked in stitches. 👀 Your turn: When you look at a mosaic design, what do you think makes the image work well? Is it: • Strong contrast between colours • Clean outlines • Simplicity of shapes • The spacing around the motif • Something else? Designing mosaic patterns is often about what you leave out as much as what you include. I’d love to hear your thoughts — especially if you've ever had a chart that looked great on screen but didn't translate well in crochet. Angela The Pattern Scribe

@Roxanna Brooks I completely agree — it really is like a painting. The design draws you in first, but then the colours are what create that emotional response and depth. That’s exactly why I love mosaic overlay so much… the structure gives you the “subject”, but the yarn choices bring it to life. I also love what you said about interpreting the subject more consciously afterwards — that’s such a powerful way to look at it, especially for anyone starting to design themselves.

@Karen Lindsay That’s such a lovely way of looking at it — I really like how you’ve described that 😊 I completely agree too, the design pulls you in first, but the colours are what really bring it to life and give it that impact. It’s exactly like you said — almost like looking at a painting. I find the same when designing — sometimes a really simple motif can look incredible just based on colour choice and contrast alone 💙
🧶 What’s on Your Hook Right Now?

Let’s fill this discussion with some mosaic inspiration 🧶

@Roxanna Brooks sounds like me, juggling a few things at once.

@Karen Lindsay That sounds lovely — and I completely get that 😊 I’m exactly the same, I always seem to have a few things on the go at once! And yes, I’ve recently made a mosaic sweater and hat by Hanjan Crochet just to mix things up a bit — but they were still mosaic 😄 I definitely get bored if it’s just plain stitches for too long! Your colour combo sounds really nice too — denim and elephant grey always work so well together 💙
