Bc if u are reading this, that album (and thusly the magic of William Orbit at his zenith) has touched ur life. If ur a student who has never heard all of ‘Ray of Light’ 🙀…….go lay in a room with some headphones and pretend it’s an ASMR journey and experience how one of the most self-absorbed (and hurt at an early age) people in history regained her footing not only as an artist but as a person 𝙖𝙛𝙩𝙚𝙧 BEING HANDED EVERYTHING THE WORLD COULD OFFER! She still wasn’t happy. Deeper and Deeper showed her descent (commercially and spiritually? We’ll deep dive.). Take a Bow gave her momentum and power again (when she complained abt Boyz II Men and that ‘damn Bodyguard Soundtrack…is that still on the charts?’) and she got critical revenge w the art that is Human Nature and Bedtime Story. Then Madonna won the Golden Globe after pressing ballads and ballads w Something to Remember (and her ballads 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 get their own deep dive! The title track alone!💔) and was considered for an OSCAR after 5 years of public shaming and image re-building. For fans, we were like: 𝙔𝘼𝙔! I mean I listened to Patti Lupone’s Evita on loop the second I heard Madonna was doing Evita - it was exciting for us! I still get chills when I hear Madonna hit the high note in A New Argentina🩷! Then we found out she was pregnant while making it?!!! Flashing her belly to I think Kurt Loder on the set of Evita with her mink coat but the world didn’t know she was pregnant and abt to sing ‘Dont Cry for Me Argentina’ on the actual balcony of the Casa Rosada…and she did it and let’s face it Evita is the best music video she ever made (well……before Confessions 2?🤷🏼‍♂️?)…and we had the Don’t cry Miami mixes …so much fun!!!! BUT we didn’t expect Ray of Light. No one did. No expected Frozen: SMART AS THE FIRST SINGLE COZ IT SHOCKED THE PLANET. The song, the video - everything abt it - was as haunting and beautiful and even more meaningful in my mind than Like a Prayer. Frozen holds a special place in my heart. It belongs to a boy I was dating at the time who is still the best bf I ever had. ANYWAY.
