Shenpa…Attachment and What it Means in Your Life
Ever had that moment when someone says something and you feel it hit? That little tightening. That snap. You're fine one second, and the next, you're not. You're somewhere else entirely, defensive, angry, shutting down. Barely even noticed the transition? There's a Tibetan word for that... Shenpa. Means "hooked." And it's not really about what they said. It's about what got triggered in you. Something old, something familiar. A pattern you've been running for years, maybe decades. Suddenly you're not responding to the person in front of you; you're responding to every person who ever made you feel that way. Do you catch yourself doing this constantly? Someone challenges you, and boom. You're not you anymore. You are some tightly-wound version who needs to be right, needs to control the outcome, needs the discomfort to stop. The urge to scratch that itch is so strong you will say almost anything to get relief. The trick isn't fighting it; that just makes it stronger. It's to see it. Catch it early. Feel that tightening in your chest or your jaw and just... sit with it. Don't act. Don't explain. Don't defend. Just let it be there. Harder than it sounds, I know. I practice this on the cushion, but the real practice is in the wild conversations, traffic, stressful days. Someone cuts you off? Shenpa. Partner says something that stings? Shenpa. Tired, overwhelmed, dog won't stop barking? Shenpa. You don't have to be perfect. Just willing to notice. And when you don't notice until after you've gone off the rails? That's okay too. Sit down later, replay it, see where you got hooked. Not self-flagellation. Just learning. I've started giving people permission to call me out. A little sign—pull an earlobe, tap the table. Just a gentle "hey, you're hooked." Takes the shame out of it. Because we all get hooked. All of us. The secret isn't non-attachment. It's catching yourself before you bite. Namaste with Love ❤️ Always Mark

Hospital for me this morning ☹️
As my health has been declining in this last seven days since the fever hit me last Sunday night. It came to the point my local French friends took over and arranged an emergency doctors appointment in the hospital this morning as my chest infection is really making it difficult to breathe and it is certainly not getting any better.
