AI and the Economy
Just watched a short video on Insta that discussed how AI could potentially destroy the economy. Stop over and watch the video (link below), and let's talk about ways we can use AI without putting everyone out of a job. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DaNgUdlAK73/?igsh=MXdlN2R2ZGZ5amJpdA==

Dave Eggars on AI and Art
I read an article/interview of Dave Eggars that was posted in The Gaurdian yesterday. It was an interview with Dave Eggars, one of my favorite authors. I actually discovered him be accident when I bought one of his books solely for the vintage style, embossed cover. (Thanks Hologram for a King.) I've read quite a bit of his work since then, including the one you've probably actually heard of -- The Circle, which was made into a movie starring Emma Watson. Because I enjoy his work so much I was already excited to read the article, but when the headline is about how an author or artist I love feels about AI, I'm gonna read it immediately. Eggars is quoted saying "Once you have a machine think and write for you, you're cooked as a species." -- Obviously a strong stance against, and I totally get it, because Eggars doesn't just make the statement, he goes over why he feels that way. If you want to read the article yourself you can find it at: https://www.theguardian.com/books/2026/jun/27/dave-eggers-once-you-have-a-machine-think-and-write-for-you-youre-cooked-as-a-species And thanks to The Gaurdian for not pay-walling information. How do you currently feel about AI? Is it all bad?

I fall into almost all the categories I listed and a few I didn't. In my life creativity is essential to being alive. It's who I am whether I'm designing a website, creating patterns, or just adding to my junk journal. Art is so good for my mental health and I find the community between artists can be amazing. That's why I made this group.
My Communique Quilt Pattern
I love working with fabric. It's one of the few traditional arts that has an undo button (seam rippers anyone?). But weirdly, I have more fun designing the layout of my quilts than actually doing the sewing. That is probably why it takes me so long to finish my quilts. This particular quilt started out being designed as a throw quilt, but I ended up expanding the design to king-size. Once it was finally pieced, I sent it off to be quilted, and it gets used for extra layers every winter. Do you work from published patterns or make your own?
