Quick author business reminder: it’s a great time to review your expenses. 💻📊
As we get closer to wrapping up the year, this is the perfect moment to go back through everything you’ve spent on your author career — software, subscriptions, tools, courses, ads, office supplies, all of it — and do a quick audit. Not from a place of guilt, but from a place of clarity. 👉 A few questions to ask yourself: - What tools did I actually use this year? - Which subscriptions are helping me reach my goals… and which ones quietly auto-renewed without giving much value? - What could I simplify in my tech stack? - Is there anything I want to invest in more intentionally next year? A 15–20 minute audit can help you save money, clean up your systems, and start 2026 with a clearer sense of what’s actually supporting your author career. If you feel comfortable, share one thing you discovered as you reviewed your expenses — big or small.

I found that I spent a ton of money in 2025, but it was also my first full year as an authorpreneur. I'm planning for the long haul so what I spent up front (like purchasing a block of 1000 ISBNs from Bowker), means I have less to spend later and I get to settle into my systems and actually make forward progress. And I bought too many shiny objects. 🫣
Let’s talk outlining! 📝✨
Every author has some kind of process for planning out their books. . . even if that process is “I don’t outline at all.” (AKA, Pantsers 😅) 👉 I’d love to know: - Do you outline your stories before you write? - If so, what’s your process? - And do you think there’s such a thing as “the best way” to outline? Some writers swear by detailed scene breakdowns. Others use index cards, sticky notes, or just a loose summary. And some absolutely thrive as discovery writers. There’s no one-size-fits-all — it’s about what helps you stay excited and keep moving. Let’s share what’s worked (and what hasn’t) to help each other find our best way forward.

I didn't really have a system previously, but with my new series I've begun to plot using a plot grid in Google Sheets. So far it's working fairly well, but we shall see how I really do with it once I start actually writing.
Let’s catch up ☕️✍️
I’d love to know what you’re working on this week! What’s one writing or author-related thing you’ve been focusing on recently (big or small)?

I mainly worked on my writing/editing schedule for the next year. 🤞there's not a lot of changes as I go.
Where I have been. . .
Hey all, I wanted to take a moment to share that my dad passed away recently, which is why I’ve been quiet and away for the last couple of weeks. It’s been a really hard season, and I needed a little time to rest, process and be with my family. I just want to say how grateful I am to be back here with this cozy, creative community. This group and all the amazing authors I get to work with really do feel like a bright spot for me. Thank you for your patience and for being part of this little corner of the author world. I’m excited to jump back in, hear what you’ve all been working on, and keep building together. 🕯️

Tell us about your current work in progress! 🖋️✨
Whether you’re drafting, editing, plotting, or somewhere in between — your WIP is worth celebrating! Every bit of progress counts. 💪 👉 Share with us: - What are you working on right now? - What’s working well for you in your process? - And what’s not working — what’s been challenging lately? Sometimes sharing where we’re at (the good and the messy) can spark new ideas or remind someone else they’re not alone in it. So let’s hear it — what’s your WIP, and how’s it going this week?

@Kc Herbel Good luck! Remember that everything you add to it is progress. Even if it's only a little at a time.

@Tricia Lynne Love PWA, but it does keep on giving conflicting information when it comes to comma's and other changes. It'll say to change it, then we do and then it comes back around and says to change it again. Totally frustrating!
