Time for business moves
I have been thinking and thinking of ways to make money with art and what route I am going to take next. My next goal is going to be doing commission work and structuring ways I can make a living off of murals. If successful I will be showing how I do this process. How I make contracts and how I got clients. If anyone has any tips or dose this work please šŸ™ comment below and maybe this will help the rest of the community!

I have done murals and commissions allot and over the years I have learned to ask for a deposit or half of the agreed amount upfront. I will bid the job and do not charge by the hour or by square foot or inches. Those things tend to block my creativity. Also get the concept of what they want and maybe do some basic sketches..some people don’t need that and will give you creative freedom. But some people want that. After everything is agreed on before I start I let them know that if they want any changes after I’ve already begun. I charge $100 each for any additions or alterations. Not that I am not open to ideas and suggestions. I have had to walk out of a mural job before and told them to get wall paper. lol. I just cannot do my work with someone over my shoulder micro managing me. Hope that helps. I wish you success on you journey! šŸ™

@Jacob Rowe I don’t charge by the square foot or inches or by the hour. I have done that in the past..in my teens and early 20’s..it was so long ago so I can’t remember exactly. But it never felt like it payed enough and I started bidding jobs instead. It really depends on the job what I charge. And the clients budget..It’s the hardest part for me and I can’t say I’m wildly successful but I do get paid for art..though at times if I’m broke enough I’ll take a commission for $500 but generally charge $2k-5k. Those higher end commissions are fewer and further between. I really need an art manager.

Hi, I go by Amrita, my dad named me that but they put Rosalind on my paperwork..and they require one to use their legal name here..Rosalind is my maternal grandmother’s name and my mom passed it down by tradition..I grew up being called Amrita and also my maiden name is McKenzie and I I am in the process of getting it changed back and plan to add Amrita so I don’t have to explain such a simple thing as my name all the time. I am a lifelong artist and have always signed my work Amrita McKenzie. It’s my real name no matter what’s going on with my paperwork. Whew! Anyway just wanted to clear that up out the gate. Haha. I love all kinds of art and find inspiration in surrealism, realism, art Nuevo, stylized motif art, visionary art, uv art and everything in between..I paint primarily in acrylics and oils. I also love to create sculpture with clay. My person is also an artist and we paint live at events pretty often..in this video we are working on a collab piece right now with an Alice and wonderland theme. I’m painting the right side of the canvas and he’s painting the left. His name is Nathan Allen. He’s an amazing surrealist. He doesn’t get online much. This is our 2nd collab we’ve done. The first one I used as my cover photo on Skool. 😊
