Daily Lesson #1 - Is It Worth "Gogginsing" in Training?
At first, you might ask: what the heck does “Gogginsing” even mean? The word comes from David Goggins – a guy known for his insane endurance and for pushing himself way past the “limits” of human performance. In this context, “Gogginsing” basically means brutal, punishing work. So the real question is:Do you need to destroy yourself, puke after every workout, and push to absolute failure all the time? Or is there another way? A lot of people online and in books keep repeating the same message: work harder, suffer more, never quit. They claim every session should leave you dead on the floor. And (here comes the wild part) they even say “rest is for the weak.” That’s a pretty crazy statement when you think about it. I don’t agree with it – and you’ll soon understand why you shouldn’t either. We have to separate two things when we talk about training: - Training the body - Training the mind Here in our school, we focus on both aspects of training. Unfortunately, most internet “gurus” talk almost only about one – the mental grind. In the gym, you should train smart and hard. Just grinding without strategy will only lead to unnecessary injuries and lack of long-term results. So I think by now you know the real answer to the question: Is it worth “Gogginsing” every session? In the long run, it’s the wrong choice. That’s why, if you’re not doing it already, you need to put more focus on recovery – because that’s where the real growth happens. Here are the most effective recovery methods you can apply right away: 💤 Aim for 7–9 hours of deep, quality sleep each night 🍽️ Eat at least 1g of protein per kg of body weight daily to repair and build muscle 💧 Stay hydrated – 2–4 liters of water per day 🧘 Light stretching, mobility, or yoga 1–2 times a week is enough 🚶 Active recovery: walking is king – 5–7k steps a day will do the job 🛀 Relaxation: spending time with friends and loved ones lowers cortisol and helps you recharge There’s a quote that fits perfectly:“Rest as hard as you train.”
