Timex Day #4 - White Dial Wednesday Bring Back
GQ wrote an article featuring the Timex Intrepid JFK, Jr wore back in the day. https://www.gq.com/story/timex-dimepiece-foundwell-collaboration-intrepid-jfk-jr-watch When Timex reissued the piece as the Indiglo, it was definitely going into the Critch Collection and has been a regular White Dial Wednesday participant. So much to like about this. Have a great day

I love that watch. It's a hit of nostalgia every time I see it.
Grails (and Gauntlets)
Francis Ford Coppola's unique F.P. Journe FFC Prototype. Took 7 years to develop and is the only F.P. Journe whose concept originated from someone other than François-Paul himself. Going to be auctioned in December!

@G R Ooh, I hadn't seen a video yet. I knew it would be a polarizing style, but I just think the engineering of it is impressive all else aside.

@Scott Eisenacher 😂 True. And I agree. I also think that where complications in watches don't necessarily translate to people not into watches, most people would look at this thing in motion and think, "how'd they do that?"
Today In Grail Watches: Masa & Co. Sohkoku
I'll be dreaming about owning this one. Absolutely stunning watch in my opinion. Dial is hand engraved. The case (in one instance; there are two case options) is made in part of shakudō, a gold/copper alloy which takes on a black patina, and which has been used at least since 12th century Japan, often for sword fittings. Movement is made in house, reportedly with a focus on reliability and serviceability. Beautiful, to say the least. Link to the watch here.

@Jeffrey Plotka I'm a sucker for those gothic numerals, all else aside. I've never seen them on a watch...though admittedly that could be due to my relative ignorance about what's out there.

@G R Same! 😂
How Do You Organize Your Watch Collection?
Truth be told, I signed up for Skool to join a group about AI. Whether it's a spreadsheet to organize personal possessions, or an AI system that I build to help run my business, I love to tinker. I use Airtable to organize my wardrobe and online window shopping. I use Notion to organize content for my websites. I use Raindrop for quick and dirty (but well organized) bookmarks. What might people here do when it comes to watches, whether those you own, or those you're wanting for? Would love to hear about how you might organize things. I'd also be happy to recommend a way to do so if you think you'd benefit from it!

@Robert Meyers I have a number of tables to organize: 1. Wardrobe: This table houses the clothes I own and their measurements. I have fields for Brand, Fabric, Material Composition, Color, Retail Price, Purchased Price, Date Purchased, Category & Type, e.g. Outerwear -> Flight Jacket, and any measurements that apply. There are multiple, filtered views so that when I'm viewing say, just shirts, the screen isn't crowded with fields for trouser measurements. I don't think there's anything more helpful when shopping than having measurements of the clothes you own and know fit you well. This has enabled me to get insanely good deals online because, when you can compare measurement and have high confidence that something will fit you (assuming the retailer provides measurements of the product your considering), you can more safely benefit from 'final sale' items, etc. 2. Brands & Retailers: I keep a table of Brands and Retailers in part so that I can link to it from elsewhere, as in the case of the Brand/Retailer field in my Wardrobe table. This way I can get an overview of what I own, and what I've purchased from whom. In this table I also keep various fields for URLs, linking to where a given brand is sold. For example, maybe one entry is for the brand Sunspel, and I have a link to Sunspel's own site, but I also have links to various retailers where I know Sunspel items are often discounted. For some brands, too, I keep pre-filtered links to resale platforms so I can check up on new listings. If one day I'd like to buy a denim jacket from Ralph Lauren Purple Label, and could potentially acquire that in excellent condition via The Real Real, I might as well make it easy to click and view what might be available. 3. Makers: This gets a little more nerdy; partly because I'm just interested in textiles, and in part because I like mapping what suppliers companies source from – I like to include where the fabric for a garment was made, and even who constructed that garment (where possible). This is mostly an exercise in building knowledge about fabric quality, and determining value. An analog to this would be tracking which watch companies use which movements from elsewhere. One simple effect of this, in Airtable, is linking from the Brands & Retailers table to these Makers, so that at a glance I can see which brands are using which Mills, etc. Maybe I'm interested in a garment made from Solbiati linen (among the best available), and so I can go browsing based on this. Again, this is a bit nerdy, and for enjoyment more than anything...but certainly interesting.
