Hi Adex👋🏻 I think that emotion is the most important thing for a singer. Emotion can overshadow everything else. Emotion can inspire a singer to sing well, or even perfectly, even if they are not familiar with various singing techniques. There are many singers in history whose vocals were not outstanding, but it was the emotions they conveyed through their singing that left a lasting impression on their fans.
What I learned from Kevin McCloskey
This video was posted about three months ago, and since then it’s been the only one I keep coming back to and watching again and again. Anyone else studied this video? Here are some of my notes: Overall Mindset Mixer Role He views himself as an enhancer of the mix. His goal is to take a song that already sounds good and make it bigger, wider, and deeper. He finds it more efficient to honor the work of skilled producer. If the mix already sounds great, he prefers to bult upon a producer's existing balance rather than mixing from a scratch. Mastered Foundation He makes sure the mix foundation (kick, snare, hi-hats, and bass) is peaking at - 5 dBFS on true peak meter, and around zero on VU meter (calibrated at -15). Then he makes sure the foundation sounds great at the loudness level (two limiters), around -9 LUFs. Lead Vocal vs. Other Elements He makes sure the lead vocal sounds great in the depth he created with the kick and snare at the mastered loudness level. Once the lead vocal sounds great in the mastered foundation, everything else is mixed around the lead vocal. The lead vocal should NOT work with other instruments, other instruments should work with the lead vocal. Important Details 3D "terrarium" He describes a mix as a 3D "terrarium" or cube. He views the mix in three dimensions: Panning handles left-to-right (width), frequency range handles height, and transient shapers handle depth (front-to-back). Faders He prefers to use clip gain for leveling rather than channel faders. Kick He mixes kick at -5 dBFS true peak and around 0 on VU meter calibrated at -15. Snare He mixes snare so it peaks at - 5dBFs on true peak meter Bass He mixes bass so it hovers (kick and bass) around 0 on VU meter calibrated at -15 Mixing Into a Limiter He applies final limiter to make the foundation (kick, snare, hi-hats, and bass) sound great at -11 LUFS to -9 LUFS. He teaches that the low end and low end mids are the primary contributors to LUFS. This approach ensures the mix won't collapse or lose its punch when a limiter is eventually applied at the final stage.

@Luiza Milenova At the end of last year my daw shows that I had 660 plugins😓 but about 40-50% of them were trials. Too much plugins are overwhelming me and creates some kinda analysis paralysis. I realised that in my case too much of choice are slowing me down and not helping my creativity. Now I’m in the process of getting rid of plugins that I don’t use. But it’s hard though, almost every time when I want to uninstall plugin I thinking: well, maybe I’ll use it one day, or I’ll convince myself that I should use it. Then some time pass and I still don’t use it, then I’m eating myself for that, then I eventually delete it, then I install it back again, and cycle repeats🫠 Stupid brain 🧠

@Luiza Milenova I read some info about that plugin, it looks like the magic knob does work with transients 🤔 it definitely worth trying this plugin with Kevin’s technique 💯

Oh boy, Kevin is back 🔥
More free stuff!
Universal Audio is generous as crap, bro. I see why they're one of the leading audio suppliers. I literally have more free stuff from them than plugins I paid for. And we all know how solid their plugins are. They're giving away a freaking bundle for free! And an analog preamp, at that! You should get the notification when you open UA Connect.

@Sam King I used to have this problem few years ago. If I remember correctly I installed and logged in ilok Manager app and problem was gone permanently. I’m not sure if it is the same case, but maybe it can help 🤷‍♂️ 🙏
What style of music do you create?
What's going on y'all? I am curious to see what types of musical creatives we have in this space! I myself personally create in a few different styles myself... Anywhere from more of a singer songwriter type of vibe, to a rap/ hip hop style, and occasionally get a little more aggressive with some rock and metal type tracks as well. Currently in the process of learning to play the guitar and drums as well as learning how to create beats, record and process my vocals, mix, aaaand master... ya know... the whole sha-bang! 😅🤣 Trying to be a one stop shop without having a need to outsource anything in my creative process. I have a toooon of ideas in my head just need to learn the proper skills to be able to translate... So here I am and I have never been more excited about learning in my life! LFG Gang!🤘 We can all make it if we stay consistent with it 💪
