Intro from Ipswich: what I learned checking which local trades actually publish an email
Hi all - Alex, 19, Ipswich, UK. Solo founder, launched a small local-business prospecting tool on Tuesday. Andrea suggested I introduce myself, so here's the one thing I've learned this fortnight that might be useful to anyone here selling to local businesses. Whether a niche is reachable by email at all is decided before you write a word. I've been checking, town by town, whether the businesses in a trade actually publish an email address on their own site. Some real counts from this week: UK marketing agencies, 8 of 8 had a live site and a role address (hello@ / info@). Accountants in Bristol: 25 checked, 0 published an email as text on the site - forms and phone numbers only. Hairdressers and beauty salons in West Yorkshire: a surprising number still print a web address on their directory listing that no longer resolves anywhere, and nobody has told the owner. So before building a campaign for a client, I now run the town and trade first and read the counts. If the answer is "phone and form", email is the wrong channel and no amount of copy fixes that. If the answer is "role addresses everywhere", you're fine, but check for the placeholder trap: a lot of scraped lists contain info@domain.com style addresses that were never real. Mostly here to listen. If anyone has a niche where the reachability surprised them either way, I'd like to hear it.

@Andrea Palten Thanks Andrea. Agencies are the easiest trade to reach by email that I've measured so far - in the one UK batch I checked, 8 of 8 published an address, against 0 of 25 for accountants in Bristol. One thing worth knowing before you go after them: what they publish is usually a hello@ or info@ rather than a named person, so the first line has to earn the forward to whoever owns the decision. Happy to walk you through how I check a region if that's useful - just message me.
