The way to solve this is less intimidating than it seems. Take each of the bracket groups and expand them and then equate coefficients of x powers. You can find all the letters that way (might be through simultaneous equations) and should be able to then calculate k + l

generally if a semicolon is placed the clauses on either side are independent, so in this case having instead after the second colon will work but before the semicolon makes the first clause dependent, thus breaking the rule

I try and imagine what word I'd put in and for the sentence I thought of 'as a result' (since the sentence seems to be an address to the previous statement). And of the options, 'thus' is probably the closest fit to that -> I might be wrong though

is there a specific syntax that trips you up? I'd recommend trying to spot a pattern in the questions you get wrong so that you can build a specific strategy around it
The grind restarts :D
Started my lock-in for the SAT yesterday (got 1520 on my May SAT and taking the June SAT). Just finished a practice exam from bluebook today (got 1550 which I was happy about!), and then watched a gamify SAT vid on R&W section (which is def my weaker part). Any advice for edging out the last few points (esp for reading and writing cause math for me is usually ~ 790)?
