Women’s self-defense
We are working on a video just for women’s self-defense situationals. Common situations that occur that women can defend themselves. Sticking with the Hard Target concept of keeping everything fundamental and gross motor skill based it will focus exclusively on common and probable scenarios to know.

@Michael Robinson with the average student I’m working with them between 1-1.5 hrs. That said it really just depends on the level of the student. I will give you a basic format of what I do and a few exceptions. Typically, for someone that’s trained with me more than 3 to 6 months - we start with a light warm-up - We will typically review basics, 12 basic strikes, defense and counter, sometimes basic blocks, body shifting, use of the left hand and going into attributes of the grouping system. - We do not teach the strict grouping system because we are considered a random system. But we do utilize aspects of it for teaching because it is beneficial there. I’m very hands-on so I like to cross sticks with my students. They need to feel and be able to know how to react. This is more difficult when people practice remote unless they have a partner. When there are particular things that they need to work on such as a disarms or transitions or the difference between feeling the difference between what we referred to, as feel, monitor, or control type of touches and how to react properly, I let them do reps based on time I would say 70 to 80% of the time. Sometimes it’s based on reps depending on time constraints. If we are past attributes of the grouping system, then we are working on fine nuances that are very particular and specific to NECOPA Balintawak, Bacon-Buot Balintawak, sometimes WOTBAG Balintawak, and Eagles Nest Balintawak. The typical goal during a practice is to work on what’s needed with each individual to make them stronger where they are weak and to build their confidence where they are strong. When working with groups, we will always start with fundamentals and transition to what I mentioned before and have individuals pair up and work on drills that will build around their strengths or weaknesses. We don’t have as many levels like you have in your system. Our level 1 is equivalent to your level 6 COA. But we don’t refer to it as completion of the Art because I am a strict believer that it’s very organic and always growing. We have different certifications for our Certified feeders as well as just the practitioners.

@Richard Martin looking forward to hearing from you as you kick start everything back again. Those little brakes are greatly needed at times because they rejuvenate it helped keep that excitement for training. Over training can also be a detriment. I need to tell myself that sometimes as well.
Training / Testing
@George Bell will there be opportunities to train or test with you in person?

@Michael Robinson Actually, I’ve been taking survey to figure out what people are interested in. Personally I would like to do something, but as you know already, this has to be done in person. If there’s an interest level, then yes it will be something that will be available in the future. Most likely with one of the other memberships, but I’m not sure of details yet.

@Ethan Ackerman welcome Ethan, self-defense videos will be popping up in the next few days. The great thing about the first series of videos that we do with the self-defense we refer to as, HARD TARGET, everything we initially teach is focused around gross motor skills, high percentage situations and moves that work and are proven. Someone that has experience or no experience can learn this. I look forward to posting the reality self-defense videos, and hearing your input.

@Michael Robinson you’ll be able to get all that here and more. We’re looking forward to you being involved in the community (Hive).
Welcome Michael Robinson
Welcome @Michael Robinson, the best way to navigate is to like and feel free to comment on post or even make your own post with questions. As you do so you level up and more content becomes available for standard members. All martial arts will be immediately available and there are even multiple modules on feeder content to work with partners for Balintawak. Again Welcome!!

That is fantastic to hear Michael and thank you for your service. Having a diverse background also will help giving you different perspectives. I’m also the creator of a website called the Balintawak library that started about five years ago and we featured multiple families of the art from around the world, so I’ve been very blessed and fortunate to see many different teachings from multiple lineages. In regards to practice I’ve already mentioned to you so I mainly follow two teachings nowadays, but I implement many techniques from multiple lineages that work extremely well in my everyday practice. Feel free to hit me up with questions anytime. If you post the questions here in the community that is best because everyone can learn together.
