IT Support Is a Cybersecurity Shortcut
Most people think IT support is “below” cybersecurity. That mindset keeps people stuck unemployed for months. IT support teaches the exact fundamentals most beginners are missing. Active Directory. Networking. Troubleshooting. Permissions. Tickets. Communication under pressure. That’s real-world infrastructure exposure. The hidden advantage is this: Companies trust people who already know how business systems actually work. A lot of cybersecurity beginners skip that foundation and end up with certs but no operational understanding. Starting in IT support can massively speed up your path if you use it correctly. I put together a breakdown of how to turn helpdesk into a cybersecurity launchpad. Comment "SUPPORT" and I’ll DM you The IT Support To Cybersecurity Guide.

A Brief Intro + Question
I've been kind of dormant on here since joining. So first of all hello to all of you. I'm Adam. Currently I'm a freelance SEO ghostwriter with an interest in getting into the tech field. I'm planning to go into IT helpdesk before moving on up. I love tech and do have some troubleshooting skills under my belt. Anyways, I was scrolling through X (or Twitter if you still prefer to call it that) and read about someone who worked in IT. I've attached the screenshot for reference. I'd love to get into tech and I do know how to use AI to an extent (forgive me if I come off as bragging about that). But seriously...are things really this bad? I'm hearing all kinds of noise and while I try to ignore it I get a bit confused by what's going on. Thanks

@Airese Kaw Good to know. I appreciate your input
The Job Market Rewards Different People Now
A lot of people still think cybersecurity rewards the same candidates it rewarded 3 years ago. It doesn’t. The old market rewarded people who could memorize enough to pass a cert and throw keywords on LinkedIn. The new market rewards people who can actually show proof. AI changed the game fast. Now employers care more about: • projects • communication • practical skill • adaptability • AI usage without dependency The people getting interviews today are building labs, documenting projects, and learning how to use AI productively. Not just collecting certificates. That’s why so many people feel “qualified” but still can’t land interviews. The market rewards different people now. Comment "REWARD" and I’ll DM you Portfolio Guide.

🔥 Skills Alone Won’t Get You Hired
I see people grinding certifications for months 😵‍💫 Learning Linux 🐧 Learning Python 🐍 Building labs 💻 …but still getting zero interviews. 🚫 Why? Because employers don’t hire “knowledge.” They hire perceived value. 📈 If your resume looks weak, your projects are invisible, and your positioning is bad… nobody cares how much you studied. That’s why I tell people to stop obsessing over collecting skills and start focusing on strategy. 🎯 Your resume matters. Your portfolio matters. Your ability to present yourself matters. The people getting hired fastest usually aren’t the smartest. They’re the ones who know how to position themselves correctly. ⚡ Comment "POSITIONING" and I’ll DM you how to position yourself. 🚀

🚫 Skipping Helpdesk Is Why You're Stuck
I see this mistake all the time 😬 Everyone says they want to skip helpdesk and go straight into cybersecurity 💻 But what they don’t realize is that mindset is exactly what keeps them stuck I used to think the same thing 🤦‍♂️ I thought helpdesk was “below me” and not worth my time But the reality is… it’s not about the role, it’s about the SKILLS you’re avoiding Most people don’t lack opportunity 🚪 They lack fundamentals like networking, troubleshooting, and systems thinking 🧠 Helpdesk forces you to build those fast ⚡ And without them, you’re guessing your way through cybersecurity So instead of skipping steps, I focused on building the right foundation 🧱 That’s what actually got me interviews and offers Comment "FOUNDATION" and I’ll DM you the roadmap I used.
