Sometimes I feel like there's so much information out there and so much stuff that can be optimized, that it can feel overwhelming. So I was wondering, if I were to choose the biggest 3 levers I can pull on, what would they be? Mine: sleep, resistance training, and foudational nutrition (that is also enjoyable). Everything else is noise until those three are locked in. What are yours?

Yeah Bro it's always overwhelming. Stick with basics. Sleep, Diet, Exercise. Period. Or? Get your deep restorative sleep. Don't eat processed crap or Corp Junk Food EVER at all. Do you even Lift Bruh? 3 things that matter. Then? You could do as I do and fill in the blanks with supplements such as good magnesium pills to help muscle and make you fall asleep, soundly. Creatine to help your muscles stay more fluid and full of water and therefore more powerful.. good clean proteins. Eggs, Lean Beef, Pork, Fish, etc. Moderate animal fats. Use AVOCADO oil to cook with. Smoothies full of greens. (Salads are a pain to me). I know I went off on a tangent, but yeah, try to keep it simple dude.Because me too , i'm part of like eight health subs on reddit? Its overwhelming. Do for you, no one else and fads are fads, as is much of the "new science " headlines we see on interwebs daily.

@George Chidiac you are welcome. It's Good to be young and know this stuff. Now , because the food I see people under thirty stuffing in their faces? Cringe. Extra Cringe. I have a 20 yr old and a 19 yr old part time college kid coworkers. Already have health issues related to cardiovascular and the gut. Actually missing work because of it at THAT age?? I find it sad but preventable. But then? I see what they eat. Fries & fried chicken strips, soda and sweets in between. Its crazy. I watched them eat thousands of calories of absolute filling , yet horrifying, empty food full of no nutrition fiber or life affirming whole foods. No Macro or Micronutrients just Processed Fried Foods. Dude. it Kills me as a Chef. Seriously. In America? 101% proven the average diet here? = death, cancer, obesity
🦴 So you heard about collagen?
🦴🦴🦴 Researchers at Anglia Ruskin University reviewed 113 clinical trials and nearly 8,000 participants. They found clear benefits for healthier-looking skin, relief from osteoarthritis pain and stiffness, and modest improvements in muscle mass and tendon structure. ScienceDaily The catch: benefits built up gradually, suggesting taking collagen consistently over a longer period matters more than a short-term burst. The Conversation And you don't need a $60 powder to get started. Get it through food first 🥩 Your body can't make collagen without raw materials. Here's where to find them: 🍗 Bone broth: one of the richest direct sources of collagen peptides 🐟 Salmon with skin on: high in collagen, especially in the skin and bones 🥚 Egg whites: loaded with proline, a key amino acid your body uses to build collagen 🍊 Citrus fruits and bell peppers: vitamin C plays a major role in the production of pro-collagen, the body's precursor to collagen 🫐 Berries: vitamin C plus antioxidants that protect existing collagen from breaking down 🧄 Garlic: high in sulfur, which helps synthesize and prevent the breakdown of collagen healthlinehealthline What destroys it: Sugar, smoking, and excess sun exposure all accelerate collagen breakdown. Fix the basics first. I know the collagen buzz word has been going around a lot lately, especially since I had my mom asking me about it multiple times. The truth is, I always favor the less processed options. As always, if you can't get it through food or need the convenience, find a reputable brand and make it work ... but if you can, do it with whole foods.
🦴 So you heard about collagen?

Need more protein. How?
My understanding is that having enough protein in the diet is important. And even more so as we age. Right @Vinnie Lamonica ? So, a couple of questions: - What's the amount of daily protein? (I am 49yo/ 60kg) - I don't eat much, so how do I add more protein easily?

Oh just that chicken breast is dry and bland as a protein Chefs are ambivalent about it here and we're the only country in the developed Western world that has a bizarre obsession with it. I believe it's more by our corporate food sources over the last 4 decades pushing it on us than free will and choice. Marketed as a "Healthy Option" We literally eat a billion lbs of factory farmed, bloated, injected after processing chicken breast here. As a cook? Many of us in the kitchen laugh in terror and awe at the sometimes over 2,3,4 lb chicken breasts in a fresh #55 lb case. Just like in Nature! 🤣. Those chickens cannot stand up. Processed at 6-8 months. But anyway , yeah , get your protein from a variety of sources. If you are going to make chicken breast your main meat protein? Please find a local organic source of chicken breasts. IMO America has an Unhealthy obsession with the Roided Out, mutated GMO chicken breasts. Chik Fil A sells millions of lbs a year of it. Not only that , but working with GenZers? That's all these kids eat are chicken fingers. Its horrifying to me. My diet in my 20s was NOTHING like how these kids eat. My "Cheat Protein" over the last few weeks has been Prime Rib! did 5 roasts last week, a total of 71 lbs, took a few pounds home to myself. Amazing, the most luxurious beefy protein and Collagen source, also high in the best luxurious Cholesterol as well. Ha. I can feel my aorta congealing as I write this. I say we are omnivores , and I know I have an unfair advantage by being a professional in kitchens. Maybe I'm a West Coast Food Elitist. Ha. But eat a variety of foods explore. Buy good foods! Whole Foods. Learn to enjoy the tastes, textures as nature intended.

Bourdain said this... "Why do people who are intelligent enough to know better continue to eat and order chicken breasts? It’s like ordering a tuna fish sandwich at a steakhouse.”🤣
🪑 Your Chair Might Be Killing You (Literally)
Just listened to Chris Williamson's Modern Wisdom episode with Bob King, founder & CEO of Humanscale. The stats stopped me cold. 🛑 📉 The numbers are brutal: - 16% higher all-cause mortality risk for people who sit at work 🚨 - 34% higher risk of dying from cardiovascular disease ❤️‍🩹 - Add commuting, leisure, and sleep and most desk workers hit 15 hours of static time daily 😳 Most people move MORE in their sleep than they do at work. Let that sink in. 🧠 The real culprit isn't sitting. It's sitting STILL. When you sit hunched over a keyboard, your largest muscles go fully dormant. Blood flow slows. Your spine compresses. Hunching forward puts more stress on your spine than almost anything outside of heavy lifting. ⚙️ 🛠️ What to actually do: 🚶 Move every 30 minutes A Columbia study cited in the pod found a slow 5-minute walk every 30 minutes can cut blood sugar spikes by ~60% over a year. ✅ 🪑 Lean back, don't hunch The more reclined you are, the less stress on your spine. 🖥️ Monitor at eye level Top third of the screen should match your eyeline. 👀 20/20/20 rule Every 20 minutes, look at something 20+ feet away for 20 seconds. Each hour of daily screen time = 21% higher odds of myopia. 📱 ☀️ Get outside when you can Sunlight regulates melatonin properly so you sleep better at night. It's not sitting that's killing us. It's the stillness. Move every 30 minutes and you flip the script. 🔁 ❓ How many hours a day do you sit? Interested to hear what @Lance Hitchings thinks.

Move or Die.. welp guess my runnin around the kitchen for 7.5+ hrs a day at 59 yrs old negates that..ha. hope I can walk at 70! just the other day I thought: "damn, a 2000' sq foot kitchen and not one place to sit.. ever" as my feet were sore and I thought..be so cool to just sit down in a chair at this moment. 😁

🩸 Flatten Your Blood Sugar Spikes
Dr. Andrew Huberman Just Broke This Down on one of his latest podcasts🎙️ If you didn't catch it, here's the cheat sheet on blunting the spike... with additions from my own teaching!⬇️ 🍋 Lemon or lime juice with your meal. A few tablespoons before, during, or after a high-carb meal flattens the glucose curve. Sour beats sweet. 🌿 Cinnamon (real Ceylon, not the cheap stuff). Sprinkle it on coffee, oats, or any carb-heavy meal. Small dose, real impact on post-meal glucose. 🥗 Fiber and protein FIRST. Eat the salad, veggies, and protein before you touch the bread or pasta. Studies show this can cut the spike by 30 to 40%. 🔥 💊 Berberine 20 minutes before a heavy meal. 500mg activates AMPK (the same pathway exercise hits). Some studies compare it to metformin. Don't run it daily, save it for the meals that need it. 🚶 10 to 20 minute walk after eating. Your muscles pull glucose out of the bloodstream without needing extra insulin. The Italians and Greeks have been doing this forever. ✅ 💪 Lift before you indulge. Resistance training within an hour or two of a big meal opens the door for glucose to go to muscle, not fat. Stack two or three of these around your next pasta night and watch the energy crash disappear. 😴➡️⚡
