What should I make a video on?
Everyone is so different, I’d love to know some topics you’re all wondering about? What are you trying to overcome at the moment, and If you had a magic gig genie, what would you task him with for the next two months? 👀🤙🏼

Just an idea!
Hey friends! I was thinking today about my Monday night spot and it dawned on me - even nice restaurants are typically slow Monday through Wednesday. But because they have good food, drinks & service, entertainment can really do well bridging the gap until Thursday - Sunday. When I started Mondays two years ago they had 50-60 people on average, and now we’re rarely under 100 even through the winter. (Definitely ask your venue managers and hosts “hey how’d we do tonight?” - when you walk in say, “hey! Any folks on the books?” It’s so good to start paying attention to all of these things) It helps you begin to understand your true value as well. These nice spots have built in crowds who typically come in on the weekends, but they WANT a reason to come in on other nights. So I encourage you to find the NICEST restaurants & lounges near you, and pitch them Monday - Wednesday “laid back live music”. You could pick some famous movies and pitch “movie soundtrack Monday” - I totally wanna do this with the Forrest Gump & Pulp fiction soundtracks!! GET SOME MONDAY-WEDNESDAY GIGS AT ALL COST. If you can do that, and make $200-400 per night or work towards that, it’s gonna set you up so nice to be making double on the weekends and 4 times that for private events. Go in for lunch to these nice spots on the days you’re thinking you want to pitch. Have a meal or try some specials, connect with the bartender. Always sit at the bar for scoping a venue. Let’s find a Monday gig for everyone by June. Places love starting new ideas in the spring!

I picked up my summer residency at the local winery for my 3rd season (Tuesday evenings), but I'd love to pick up a year-round residency at least 2, if not 3, days a week, every week; especially over the winter months. Are we focusing on places that have live music on weekends to pitch the Monday residency or on new music programs?

@Drew Machak sweet! Thank you!
Welcome Carly!
@Carly Keyes I’m so excited to hear about where you’re at exactly in your music career - I’ve seen you become more active on socials and booked a recent gig. Amazing! Now let’s chat either here or via text/call about how much music you have for gigs, your sound system, your surrounding areas, and I’m going to set some goals for us. (I’m going to find you some gigs in your area to contact as well) Since you’re my first sign up! 🤙🏼🎶

@Carly Keyes nice!
Singing light vs. heavy
So many singers are belters, or they are putting every ounce of their being into each word - and though we all have our favorite artists who sing so passionately you can feel every emotion, for cover gigs you will go over much better with a light touch. That means smooth tone, more air, less vibrato. More air helps give you a natural reverb as well - -adds texture. We can do a video on this next week! Singing light has been a huge part of my success and it goes hand in hand with controlling your overall volume! We are THE VIBE of the room ☺️🌌🤙🏼 Light, fun, sure we can stray from that, but whenever you do a “dark” song (Something primarily with minor chords or its slow) it’s smart to sandwich it between two upbeat songs. And NEVER start the night with a sad or minor key song. First few songs really sets the tone and then staff and customers start to tune out after that (in a good way) They go, “oh this artist sounds great, we can resume our experience with a sonic background we now trust” Last few songs of the night as well I recommend the most upbeat tunes you know!! ☺️👌🏼

I completely agree. I've had to develop my "second voice", because I'm naturally a belter. Learning how to be more breathy and soft has really helped open up more venues because now I'm helping set a vibe instead of competing for sonic space for clientele. I also try to roll off some frequencies where voices tend to sit on my graphic equalizer to help keep my voice from being dominant (I'm amplified) in the room.
Hi!
I'm very excited to be a part of this online community! Stoked to move from a 5 figure to a 6 figure, full-time musician!

@Drew Machak hey man! You investing that 10 minute how to video into the loop station changed my career! I'm forever grateful! Thank you for the compliments on my voice! I consider that high praise from you! Although I do love a reliable weekly residency, private events sound like a great focus for me.
