Why Amex not approving for 2nd card with ITIN but approved without ITIN?
Hello, When P1 with ITIN and 9 months credit history (680) applied for 2nd Amex, they are asking to connect my bank account and refused. But P3 withour ITIN and only 5 months credit history got approved for 2nd Amex so I’m surprised why would they approve the person with less history and no ITIN Any ideas?

@Eric Wesker for P1.. that score is quite poor.. so the bank acct linking means it's 50/50 app.. they are looking for "balances in your bank acct' to substantiate what you put on the application.. to overturn
EO has been signed by Trump, Big potential changes for ITIN holders
There were earlier rumors about a new KYAC EO requiring proof of citizenship. This order has now been signed by Trump, with some minor changes. https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2026/05/restoring-integrity-to-americas-financial-system/ Perhaps most relevant to us, is section (vi), advising on risks on: *the use of an individual taxpayer identification number (ITIN) to obtain credit products or open depository accounts where the applicant lacks verified lawful immigration status. Although an ITIN facilitates tax compliance, its use in lieu of a Social Security number or valid work-authorized visa may be identified as a risk factor requiring enhanced due diligence to ensure the account is not being utilized to facilitate the unlawful employment of unauthorized aliens.* Exact effects are still unknown, as the Secretary of the Treasury shall issue a formal Advisory to financial institutions within 60 days of the order. If financial institutions decide the extra due diligence is not worth it, this might be the end of ITIN lending all together. What do you guys think about it?

@A. Hernandez - it might be wise to start opening accts at smaller banks/credit unions. I’m lucky I was able to do so and declared as a NRA + W8Ben

@John M - yes this could be the next evolution.. which would effectively end it for most of us that are NRA
BOA Phone Application DP
Opened a BofA checking account roughly 3-4 months ago in person. Applied over the phone this week for one of the cards: Here is how the flow goes: -Select 2 to speak to the sales team about credit cards. -Prompt asks you to enter last 4 of your social. -Agent answers by giving you their name and location. -Full name including middle name -Asked if I had any priority code or saw an offer online? The offer's terms read a first time. -DOB -Address - if it's a mailing and/or physical. If owned or rented. How much monthly leaase. -Country/countries of Citizenship -If you are resident or non-resident. What is your country of residence. -Your type of employment and a category for your job (employer not requested) -If self employed? -How much revenue. If the amount is per month or annual. -If revenue comes from employment. A disclaimer about how you can count revenue. -Asked for full SSN number. No problem in giving an ITIN ("yea we take that") -Mentioned that I had a checking account with BOA, agent said my profile had already shown up after I gave my name and DOB. -Very long disclaimer going through most of the terms that had been mentioned, APRs, application stuff, consent, credit lines, etc. -Asked to confirm if I agreed to the conditions and wanted to go forward. -Asked to give a final 'Yes' after a recorded message with my name and the card requested. -Card approved on the spot and CL given. No email received. -Text message sent to confirm my identity. Seems that the new card created a second profile and the agent couldn't merge them until the card number was generated. I was told to either call back the following day or upon receiving the card. Agent was super friendly, US based and knew Canada very well. The agent and I actually spoke quite a bit throughout the call (roughly 30 minutes). Calling BOA is a very different experience to Amex, Chase, Citi, Barclays all of whom are a lot less personal and not at all into rapport building or whose small-talk is a lot more scripted (though most of those banks have offshore call centers, so that might be a reason).

@George Henan - yeh ITIN + BOA is def not fun... seems anything "off" they'd rather just branch it for identity

@George Henan - no on the 1st part since my 2nd attempt was via branch so they auto attached it once it was approved I also have a message saying "We're missing critical information about you. Please update your personal info now." Clicking it asks me to confirm whether I am a "Resident Alien, Non-Resident Alien or Unsure". When selecting non-resident alien it then asks me to change my US address to a foreign one. Yup my primary (physical) is canadian and my US mailing is US that's how it establishes NRA
Experience at Bank of America
Unlike the other bank appointments I had, BofA was a bit more difficult. I could feel the atmosphere as soon as I entered the building. The ladies at the door (reception) asked me how they could help and I told them I am here to open a business checking account. They asked me at reception without even going in yet, to show them all the documents from my LLC, proof of address and 2 forms of ID. They checked everything thoroughly and then told me sit down and wait. As soon as the banker called me, he mentioned that at Bank of America we try now to have more US based clients and if your LLC's activity is primarily outside the United States, its possible that your account will flag on our system. Do you want to proceed or think about it first. Quite intimidating! But I said I want to go ahead and open the account. He was super nice and helpful though, we made the accounts and when the proof of address came, they went on the website of my utility bill to check its legit and he had to call her manager to check and read the lease agreement! After that, together with the manager, the checked the property on Google Maps to check how it looks and if its a legit house and then the manager approved it and we moved forward with the rest of the application. I mentioned to the banker that I also wanted to make a credit card application and he said, add around 3,000 USD if you can on the account today, and when it gets in the account come back and I will squeeze you in for 15 minutes so we can do the application. and I went back 2 days later and got approved straight away for an unsecured credit card!
