UPDATES
Ok i have some ideas for future things to do that i want to run by you all!! First the live calls obviously it been a bit since we did one i do apologize but I've been slammed so I figured we could try something else like. A Saturday garage take over. We could get on a live call but hang out in the garage work on projects have friends on or spouses employees what ever have a beer or 6 what ever you want to do. ill probably be working on some side projects of my own. Second would be SKOOL games. This is where i want to encourage everyone to participate more. So as you know there are levels to skool if you comment and post a lot your point go up. But it gives me a 7 day and 30 day leader board where I can see tallies on how much you participate and i can do winners to receive tool gifts from me. So let me know your thoughts id like to start the lives this weekend on Saturday

Get a project car and play the diagnostic game!
Scheduling a Week Out
@Ben Dellaria or anyone else so busy you are scheduling a week or more out. How often do people decline to make an appointment because you are scheduling a week out? I had someone call Thursday morning about a no start, I was booked until Wednesday of next week. They declined to make an appointment. I am not stressing about losing this appointment, as I have added more to next week since that call. Just curious how many calls you get that won't wait a week.

Schedule a week out, fuck them (not in an asshole way). Their suddenly immediate problems are not your problems. Like Ben said if they don't want to wait they don't need to be your customer. I'm consistently 2 months out for big jobs (8+hours) and 1-2 weeks out for small jobs. Just be upfront with your customers. I have had so many that are somehow unable to grasp the concept of "I have time to look at it Monday April the 6th between 9-10 am. This is diagnosis only. Not repair." and then ?I get there, do the diag, let them know what it needs. and they expect it fixed then or same day. Then they are mad since they waited for me to come out, because I can't magically make the part get to Reno from South Carolina in the 20 minutes I was there. Its a constant losing battle. This is why I tell all my customers the same thing at the end of diag; "It will need this, this, and this. I will reach out to you with an estimate for the job once we are done with all our jobs for the day." I do not let them captain my ship. I do not let them run my business. Don't even give a ball park number because they will hold you to that number in the end.
Scopes
Does anybody have any experience with the Topdon scope? I recently got into using the scope but don’t have the experience. The little guide sheet they sent is not very informative and wanted to see if there were anyone could point me In the right direction.

IATN https://www.iatn.net/knowledge-base-for-auto-pros has waveform libraries. Just one more subscription for us to sign on to. Not saying that in a bad way. Just one more source for service info. Scanner Danner also has superb classes on how to use the scope along with a massive stockpile of other training videos. 16 bucks a month well spent with him. Biggest thing for scope learning is constant usage. If you get a snapon one it has guided component test that plainly tells you the wires to check, a sample waveform and presets for the attached scope so you don't have to mess with anything. Excellent way to go for beginners like me in scope usage. I bought and used twice over 15 years, a hantek computer based scope. Interface was dismal because of lack of training on how to use it. Would recommend for entry level WITH subscription to scanner danner because he will explain how to set up a scope. Once it comes down to the explanation of how to set triggers and time settings and voltage limits... you fing out its the same as the nuts and bolts holding a car together. The problems is when you hook it all up and don't know what your actually looking at. I cannot speak for topdon or any other brand on their scope setups.

@Justin Bond Dude... Literally any scope will help you progress further. I'm a big snapon guy. I LOVE the fact that I can take a recording or screen shot on the scope and pull it up later on the computer with a much larger screen. I'm not sure if any of the other brands offer that. And I'm not opposed to any other brands. But snapon makes life easy in that regard. I'm using a used 2016 verus edge and the scope works fantastic. I want a zeus plus, and the main reason I am trying to buy @Ben Dellaria Zeus is because the verus won't be supported by updates past this coming October. so there goes auto auth ability and all the dumb stuff.
Business Credit Lines
Asking the community for tips on increasing credit lines through the banks. Our business goes through ?Chase for banking for pure convenience. Nearest branch is less than a mile from our house. When we started the business last April we were given 3000 limit for our business credit card, and it is still 3000 today. I asked at 6 months, 9 months, and now again at 12 months for an increase of credit limit and have gotten nowhere. Not even a rejection letter. Like our inquiries end up in oblivion. Being on the diesel side everything is much more expensive. We cycled 196k in parts from April to December, so more often then not this is how our day goes for ordering; I'm purchasing parts, paying off the balance, purchasing parts, and again paying off the balance all on the same day. Some engines have injector cost of 450$. Multiply that by 8 and we're above limit so we have to split the purchase. 6.7 Cummstain turbos are 7k so its doing three partial payments to Dodge and 3 balance payoffs to chase before we can have the part in hand. It's just driving me up a wall so I'm seeing if anyone has tips on what to say to increase credit limits for their business. I'd like to keep Chase for the convenience factor, and have never been wronged by them so have no real reason to switch banks.
Aftermarket VS OEM
I’ve never really been a fan of aftermarket coil packs, certain sensors, etc. Today I installed a blue streak coil pack. It lasted 2 miles on the test drive and failed. This has happed multiple times. They just don’t seem to hold up as well as OEM. What are you guys doing? I use Oreilys for 99% of my parts. They can have most parts same day or within 1 day, have no problem with returns, and pay labor if a part fails under warranty. I used to get coil packs and such from the dealer but don’t do any of what I just listed Oreilys does. Do you guys get OEM and hope there’s no issues? Or use aftermarket and keep swapping it out until one works?

Pick and choose your battles. I'm primarily OEM unless its modified with BETTER than factory components. I have no problem using oriellys on the chassis side for brakes, suspension, most steering components. but engine side its 50/50. sometimes dorman is better than OE, sometimes you have to use toyota for the OE air fuel ratio sensor because the denzo one doesn't cut it. The longer your in the more youll know what you can use on what brands and what you can't. Hence, pick and choose your battles.

@Asa Abadie Don't bank your business on being able to obtain warranty paybacks, its typically only 40-50 bucks an hour through oriellys or autozone. Charge correctly on all jobs so that the one job you have to warranty is covered by all the other jobs as a whole. I mostly play in diesel world, but hardly ever have to warranty OEM parts for the most part. Certain engines I know to stay away from OEM because its either been obsoleted or the new manufacturer makes it worse and the pirce tag doesn't change.
